Suggestions / Auction Rules
« on: August 06, 2013, 08:57:17 am »
I would have posted this in the auctions rules thread, but it's locked, and it's technically a suggestion.

1 thing that really grinds my gears on the trade forum is people starting auctions without specifying an exact end date. The recent trend is people specifying auctions to end X amount of time after the last bid, which means the auctions could go on until the buyout price is reached (if there is one).

It seems to me either people aren't reading the trade rules or just don't care to follow them.

There is a loophole in rule 1 of the auction rules stating that the auction can have the end time changed, but it must be done during while the auction is on-going, which technically makes this not against the rules as the sellers could potentially just extend auctions anyway. But most sellers don't even fall within this loophole, as they flat out don't specify an end date at all to extend.

My suggestion is this:

Can the auctions be moderated a bit more  or can the rules be updated to allow auctions like this?

Projects and Creations / Public mob farms
« on: July 28, 2013, 02:43:17 am »
Since I'm not playing much (basically not at all) at the minute, I've decided to open my 2 mob farms to the public. These are ender and blaze farms.

The ender farm is at /home frobalt ender. This is mostly a 1 hit farm, although you'll find the occasional enderman that takes a good few hits to kill. There is also an enchantment table readily available. I would have made the anvils public, but I won't be online to replace them when they break, so it seems pointless. This farm was originally built by Notabronie, which I purchased for $250k.

The other is a blaze farm at /home frobalt blaze. This is mostly safe to use, but blazes can sometimes get a hit if you stand in the wrong place.  Recommended that you take a sword to this, as they aren't damaged before they get to the colleciton area. Also, close the gate once you are killing blazes so that they aren't knocked back too far, and loot isn't pushed back. Not the most efficient blaze farm, but it's free, so...y'know...

Enjoy!

Rejected / Frobalt's Iron Farm Protection Application
« on: July 16, 2013, 11:36:57 pm »
City name: I am Iron Farm

City location (Live map link, coordinates, not biome, include world name): http://smp.opticraft.net/map/#/82/64/3504/-3/1/0

Contributors: Just me

Mayor (Only one - this is the zone owner): Frobalt

Approximate dimensions: 200 x 200

Number of active residents: Open to public

Number of completed, decorated and furnished buildings: 27 cells for an iron farm plus 5 levels of a mob farm

What state is the project in, and what are your plans for its future, if any: The iron farm is complete. The mob farm will be expanded and open to the public (if protection is granted).

Why should we grant this city protection?

I have made 2 out of 4 chests for my iron farm open to the public. I want to be able to add on more public farms (like my mob farm) without having to worry about building structures that limit the public only to where i want them as well as protecting said structures.

I'd also like to be able to let people tour my iron farm so they can watch as iron golems are killed, or just see how the farm is built in general.

Suggestions / Make TNT usable
« on: July 13, 2013, 06:49:01 pm »
I know the topic of this title might be shot down instantly, but hear me out:

If there was a way to make it so that TNT only destroyed your own blocks/unowned blocks, as well as unable to hurt anyone, would that make it so that TNT could be enabled on this server?

Possibly could have it so that only trusted could use it as well.

I only ask, as TNT would make digging big holes so much easier.

Helpful articles / [Tutorial] Efficient Farm Design
« on: July 02, 2013, 06:27:07 am »
Not sure if this is the right forum for it, but anyway:

http://i.imgur.com/QdorsYS.jpg

Recently, I decided I need an efficient farm so looked on the wiki for designs. The most efficient flat design is a 9x9 square with the centre being the water source. Using this method, you get 80 blocks of hydrated farm land for 1 block of water.

This is still a fairly small farm, however, and doesn't get the full potential. I found that a good way of expanding upon this is to have an 18x18 far, which is basically 4 9x9 farms in a square.

This way, you can plant exactly 5 stacks of produce.

To farm it easily, I'd recommend putting glowstone directly on top of the water source. This prevents you from falling in the water and provides a good light source.

However, you'll also need a light source placed around the centre of the farm. As you can see, i've placed glowstone on the corner blocks of all 4 farms, 2 blocks in the air so it doesn't prevent you from replanting.

To harvest, take a bucket of water and place it on top of each glowstone block (not the floating ones in the centre ofc). Replanting can be done fairly efficiently as well.

Planting 5 stacks of potatoes, I can easily get close to 10 stacks in output (after having replanted).

Enjoy!

Trade Central / [Buying] Slime farm (or access to one)
« on: June 29, 2013, 11:10:40 pm »
I could do with some slime in preparation for 1.6 and leads being introduced, so I'm wanting to either:

1. Buy someone's slime farm off them.
2. Buy access to a slime farm
3. Pay someone to build me a slime farm

Put which one you intend to sell me and how much you expect to charge, and I'll get back to you.

General Discussion / Blaze Spawners
« on: June 27, 2013, 01:08:24 pm »
So, I've been searching around for a blaze spawner to claim in member world nether, as all I've found seem to be claimed.

Although, sadly, most of them are claimed simply by a coal ore protection stone and clearly aren't in use. I can't help but wonder, who has been going around placing coal protection stones under all the blaze spawners?

Projects and Creations / Any suggestions for an xp farm design?
« on: June 24, 2013, 05:07:55 am »
I want to make myself an efficient xp farm, but I need a good design. Unfortunately, the best design I know of won't work due to the bug with water (if you remove a source, another can be created when the water is decaying).

So, does anyone know of any designs for xp farms that:

1. Don't rely on an oscillating water supply (source blocks are created and destroyed constantly  to flush mobs)
2. Doesn't rely on mob movement, as mobs can only move when within 32 blocks of a player (according to the wiki), and since they don't spawn until you're 22 (or is it 23 blocks away?) this means a farm relying on it would have to be small.

No major rush for suggestions, as I'm currently digging a big hole so that I can make sure the only place mobs can spawn, when standing near my xp farm, are in the farm itself.

Projects and Creations / Free access iron farm - 27 cells
« on: June 19, 2013, 09:05:31 am »
So, I've built myself an iron farm and am giving access away. All you have to do is go to /home frobalt ironfarm.

However, there is a slight catch: The collection area has a system of hoppers that filters the drops into 4 double chests. They distribute them evenly among the chests. I am only giving away access to 1 of these 4 chests, and ofc, you'll be competing with others for the contents of the chest.

This is only a trial run for now. If it turns out it causes too much hassle due to people getting annoyed that others are getting the drops before they can, I will remove access for everyone.

Since the hopper system distributes loot fairly evenly, the rate should be quite good, as it is a fully functioning 27 cell system, but as a bonus the way I've set it up means that if any chest and the hopper it is connected to fills up, other chests will receive more drops. This ensures that a chest filling up doesn't result in lost drops. So if all 3 of the other chests fill up before I can empty them, all the drops will go towards the public access chest.

I can't stress this enough: I am giving this access free to anyone that wants to use it, so the loot goes to whoever manages to get it first. Hopefully this will be done in a civil manner, as I don't want to remove access to it.

Also, I want to note that I will not be currently selling access to the other chests. It's possible I might change this in future though if I can figure out a way to do it.

http://smp.opticraft.net/map/#/106/64/3529/-3/1/0 - Live map link

Edit: P.S. I cannot guarantee that this chest will have a good drop rate, but since access is being given for free, it is bound to be a bonus - My main intention for this is for people that need iron as a material rather than those that want to use it to gain money.

Edit: 22/07/13 - 3rd chest has been opened up for public use.

Support / Iron Farm Bug
« on: June 17, 2013, 02:38:30 pm »
So, I've been building an iron farm, and noticed that the golems could spawn in the cells, so I lowered the roof so that there is only a 2 high-gap for villagers. Iron golems require a height of 3 to spawn, yet they are still able to spawn in the cells. http://i.imgur.com/hzmqsM5.jpg

Has anyone else that's built an iron farm encountered this bug?

Projects and Creations / Frobalt's Shop
« on: May 28, 2013, 12:01:02 am »
Dislike the thought of having to build farms and constantly replant items?

Come on over to Frobalt's shop, where items are sold at a price which is cheaper than the market.

To use the shop, do /home frobalt. Inside you will find droppers which are used to collect payment and dispense items. Above the droppers are signs, which indicate what you pay and what you get. Simply put your payment inside the dropper and watch as it dispenses your items. Ratio is 1:1 and currencies vary, but all can be found on the market. However, not all produce can be found on the market, so it is useful.

Here is a list of things with what you pay and what you get, as well as the price of the resource if you bought it at the market.

Pay: Stone - Price per stack: $150
Receive: Cactus - Price per stack: $500
Total saving: $350

Pay: Stone
Receive: Netherwart
Can't be bought on market

Pay: Gravel - Price per stack: $75
Receive: Sugar Cane - Price per stack: $80
Total Saving: $5

Pay: Gravel
Receive: Cocoa Beans
Can't be bought on market

Pay: Gravel
Receive: Wheat
Can't be bought on market

Pay: Gold Nugget
Receive: Egg
Can't be bought on market - If gold bought on market eggs work out at about $39 each! Gold nuggets can be obtained by putting 1 gold ingot into the crafting grid.

As you can see, going to the market and buying gravel/stone will be a cheaper way to get the item you want, so there's no reason not to visit my shop, especially since you can easily farm these items when mining for other resources.

Note: Please let me know if an item supply runs out and you don't get your item and I will reimburse you.

However, this isn't likely to happen as the stocks are quite high at the minute and I can't imagine the shop being that popular. Let me know what you think.

Suggestions / Shop Mod
« on: May 26, 2013, 10:44:41 pm »
Recently, I tried to search for a tutorial on creating a chest shop in minecraf.

I got a video similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzRBTXhxIVU

Unfortunately, it seems that this is a mod rather than standard in minecraft so I was wondering: Is it possible to get a mod like that on this server so people could set up actual shops?

Apologies if this already is possible and I don't know it.

Support / What plugins are there that affect water?
« on: May 23, 2013, 11:04:19 pm »
So, I've tried modifying my mob farm so that it uses a water bucket dispenser system to flush mobs, as seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=iN262uzigko

There is a problem with it, however: After a time (seems to be random) a random water source block will be created in the middle of a section. I can't find any reason that this is happening.

I've managed to recreate this 'bug' in an isolated section on the 1st (2nd, for the Americans out there) floor of my village. However, I've setup the same scenario as in my village in a single player map, and it doesn't appear to be happening there.

So, I was wondering, is there a plugin/mod to the server that could be causing this, or could it simply be a matter of multiplayer in general messing it up?

General Discussion / Do people go for aesthetics or functionality?
« on: May 13, 2013, 01:50:56 pm »
When I joined this server, I built my house near mikeybooy's, as he is the RL friend that introduced me to the server. However, it's on a world where people rarely go, so I haven't seen many active houses.

I hear a lot about cities and villages and stuff and it's got me wondering: What do most people build for, aesthetics or functionality?

Personally, a lot of my base is built around being able to stockpile things: I've got a farm that has wheat, carrots, potatoes, pumpkins, melons and sugar on it. I've also got a gold farm, a room where I can grow giant mushroom, a bit of an XP farm and a village with a lot of villagers.

I know there will be people that start projects specifically to farm, but do people prefer to have a nice looking house with no real functionality?
