Offtopic / The Poet's Release-A Creative/Favorite Poetry Thread
« on: June 13, 2012, 07:22:23 am »
Today, I was on Opticraft Classic, just sitting there and talking to the classic go-ers. Our conversation had turned to our favorite poetry and I realized that there are lovers of poetry on Opticraft. We had some of Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost and other famous poets. We also surprisingly had some creative poems that were written by the Opticrafters themselves and I must say they were truly beautiful to read. So I decided that Opticraft needed a place to express themselves in poetry on the forums, a place where they can share and read others poems.

As the title suggests, the purpose of the thread is to either post your own creative poems or post a poem by your favorite authors. It's a really simple concept and I know you will all enjoy reading your friends' poems, as much as I will enjoy reading them all. As long as you follow the simple rules below, you are free to do anything you wish with your poems.

Here are the rules, plainly and simply:

Rule Number 1: No vulgarity. I don't want to see any crude, sexual or offensive poems. I will leave it at that.

Rule Number 2: No (excessive) profanity. I understand a few cuss words will appear in a poem from time to time, so I will not be so harsh on that rule. However, if found excessive, punishments will be administered.

Rule Number 3: You may use any poems that do not conflict with rules 1 and 2. Make sure you give full credit to the original owner of the poem. After all, they did take the time to write it so show some respect .

With the rules now stated, I wish you all happy posting! I cannot wait to see all the creative poems that will be posted on here!

P.S. I'd like to thank Alpha_Lance, Kodak28, OwlGirl66 and various others for inspiring me with this thread. I grant Alpha_Lance full access of this thread, as its moderator and editor, making sure rules are followed and met. He may change rules as needed and I fully believe in him. Good luck Alpha!

Current rank: Recruit (Special Permission to Apply)

Reason for application: Because of the recent popularity and success of the SMP server, I would like to help out on classic as I feel we need more operators who are flexible with different times.

Why you should become an operator: Opticraft has always been my first and only server. I started out on classic, gradually getting to know everyone until I achieved recruit. As a recruit, I have always done my best to help ease the load of busy operators by answering commonly asked questions for them. I used to give out water and lava to some guests that I had befriended at the time, allowing them to achieve the vision they wanted in their builds. Despite being a recruit, I tried to assert a similar operator presence onto the guests, even though I really had no power. I don’t know if I ever had the intention to try to achieve builder, since building itself never really interested me. To be frank, I’m a chatter. I talk to people, get to know them, and help them adjust to an unfamiliar place. It’s always been a hope of mine, to one day achieve that coveted Operator rank, but my lack of building skills has prevented me from being able to apply. When I got the “go-ahead” from Nick, it thrilled me. Finally, I had a chance to prove my dedication for a server that I have been a part of for over 6 months. I consider myself mature, calm, patient, responsible and friendly, especially when a guest comes in for the first time on Opticraft. As it has always been, I hope to one day prove myself as a dedicated Operator, if I am accepted.

Have you been temp-op before?: No

Extra information: I am usually available to log on at any given time, however night shifts are probably when I can be on most. I can probably maintain at least 20+ hours a week operating but it really depends on my schedule.

Support / Strange Protection Stone glitch.
« on: April 04, 2012, 10:52:43 pm »
I'm not sure if this is really happening or people are making it up. But it seems a vast variety of people have complained that upon breaking a placed protection stone, they get the original drop item instead of the protection stone. For example: If they had a diamond protection stone broken, they would get a diamond rather than the ore. Same goes if they had a coal protection stone broken, they would receive the coal item yet not the protection stone.

I myself have never truly tested it out so I would not know if this is fake or not. However, it seems a lot of people are coming to me or a mod or some other trusted, and every one of them is confused on why this happens. I think sometimes even logblock cant show it was destroyed (I happened to see on chat that a mod was tending to this very problem and logblock had no history of the destruction of the stone....only placement of it).

Just thought I'd put this out there for an admin or Optical to check out, since it seems its a rather recent issue some people are facing. Perhaps you can determine if this is truly happening or not.

Offtopic / What is your favorite gaming console?
« on: March 30, 2012, 04:32:18 am »
Come on, we've all had that one gaming console that just had the best games ever, at least at one moment in our lives. Your friends would talk about it until you decided to buy it yourself, eager to play a game on this ultra cool console. They would frequently come over to your house to play a few games and you just adored that thing.

Mine was the Nintendo 64. My parents bought me one when I was about 7, and I loved that thing. I played the same games for countless hours ('Super Mario 64', 'Starfox 64', 'Quest 64', 'Star Wars Racer'(?), Super Smash Bros, Pokemon Stadium). Ya I had a lot of N64 games to start with, :P. Over time, I had a larger selection of consoles (some I bought on my own from money I got on birthdays) such as the Gameboy Advance, PS1, PS2, then eventually PSP, and Xbox 360. However, despite my collection, I never resisted the urge to play some of those classic N64 games again (no matter how many times I played them). Sometimes I'd even buy a "new" n64 game for myself and was happy to try out something different. I'd buy GoldenEye, Army Men:Sarge's Hero's, Mario Kart 64, Pokemon Snap, LOZ: Majora's Mask. My friends use to come when I was younger and mostly play Super Smash Bros, cause it had to be the most fun haha. Now it sits and gathers dust in my attic, but occasionally I'll take it out and play for a bit ;D.

Ya, I've been a pretty heavy gamer most of my life, but I guess everyone has their own interests in life. Now, minecraft is the main game for me, but when I'm not playing, I take a break from gaming and read a few books, go for a swim.

But anyways, what's your favorite console and what's your story? I'm sure we'd all love to hear :P.

Rejected / Moderator Application-DJ301

Were you recommended by anyone?: Yomomma750 (AKA: yomo)

Why you should become a moderator: Originally I was a classic player, aspiring to become an Operator and help the server someday. Daily, I would help operators with non-grief/non-rank duties, helping players on classic with water, lava and builds. After receiving an account to play smp on from a generous donor, I quickly fell in love with it. Since I became trusted, I have been helping several guests/members with solving future grief (suggesting trap ideas), donating money and giving water when I could. After several weeks of play, I started to think about becoming a Moderator and further helping. I see the struggle many moderators have to deal with daily because of the recent increase in players, and I feel I could help. I do not tend to focus on building much, as I'd rather enjoy the occasional mining/helping people.

Extra Details: I am on every day from 5 pm CST to as early as 4 am CST (sometimes i pull late nights). I love the server and I'd love to further contribute to it through my modding, if my application were to be accepted.

Thank you.

Offtopic / Where did Opticraft and Optical get their names?
« on: February 21, 2012, 04:19:36 am »
I have one theory  ;)

www.opticraft-optical.com/

But that's probably just pure coincidence right? :P

(Well i don't think Optical meant to gear it towards optometry or anything to do with eyesight ;D.)

Helpful articles / Official Forum Ranks
« on: February 17, 2012, 07:04:03 am »
After searching the forums for an official list of forum ranks, I have come to conclude that not one exists. Therefore, I would like to provide all forum-goers with a list of the forum ranks and how to achieve them. For those who do not know what a forum rank is, allow me to explain that as well.

What are Forum Ranks
Forum ranks are a ranking system made for all forum members, based on the specific amount of posts a member has. Therefore, upon achieving a certain amount of posts, the member automatically upgrades to the next rank. Forum ranks are not to be mistaken as actual ranks, but rather "decorative" titles that show other members your dedication to the forums.

Current List of Forum Ranks and How to Achieve Them

Newbie - The rank which all new forum members begin with.

Jr. Member - Achieved by making at least 50 posts.

Full Member - Achieved by making at least 100 posts.

Sr. Member - Achieved by making at least 250 posts.

Hero Member - Achieved by making at least 500 posts.

Champion Member - Achieved by making at least 1000 posts.

Grandmaster Member - Achieved by making at least 5000 posts.

This is the current rank list and as of now, there is no guarantee that these are the only ranks or if other ranks exist, as no one has so far achieved a rank higher than Champion Member. At the moment, the highest post count on the forums is currently held by a very dedicated Nick3306 with a grand count of 3296 posts.

Ranks based on In-Game Rank
Guest - Not a visible rank. All new forum members begin with this rank. Has the ability to post, quote and modify their own posts. Holds 1 gold star under their forum rank.

Guest/Recruit - A rank given to all Classic Server Recruits. Has all the powers of a guest. Has the ability to remove posts of their own and report posts to a moderator. Holds 1 gold star under their forum rank. [This rank isn't always automatically given considering the vast amount of recruits on Opticraft. Recruits may ask a forum operator or moderator to be given this rank if not already recieved].

Builder - A rank given to all Classic Server Builders. Has all the powers of a guest/recruit. Holds 2 gold stars under their forum rank.

Crafter - A rank given to all Classic Server Crafters. Has all the powers of a Builder.  Ability to have a custom title. Holds 3 gold stars under their forum rank. Can access Crafter only forums.

Classic Operator - All Classic Ops receive this rank. Has all the powers of a builder. Has the power to modify, lock, and delete any post on the forums. Holds 4 gold stars under their forum rank. Can access Operator only forums.

SMP Moderator - All SMP Moderators receive this rank. Has the same powers of a Classic Operator (see Classic Operator rank). Holds 4 gold stars under their forum rank. Can access Moderator only forums.

SMP Operator - All SMP Operators receive this rank. Has the same powers of a Classic Operator and an SMP Moderator. Holds 4 gold stars under their forum rank. Can access Moderator only forums.

Developer - All Developers receive this rank. Has the same powers of a Classic Operator and an SMP Operator. Can modify player's profile information. Can modify user groups (can rank players to any possible rank on the forums). Holds 5 highly distinguishable Blue stars under their forum rank. Can access Moderator only forums as well as Classic Operator Forums.

Admin - Only the Admins of Opticraft receive this rank. Has all the powers of a Classic Operator. They watch over the forums to make sure everything is running smoothly. Has the ability to post a Server News update. Has access to Adminstrator-only forums. Holds 5 highly distinguishable Blue stars under their forum rank.

Administrator - Only the Owner, Opticalza, has this rank. He is the forum site owner. Has all the powers of Admin, and more! Has access to Administrator-only forums. Holds 5 highly distinguishable Red stars under his forum rank.

Thanks for reading and I hope this thread helped all its readers! ;D

Discussion forum / How much do you know about Minecraft?
« on: February 02, 2012, 05:10:56 pm »
So since EliteDelta64 decided to make about how long we would survive in a creeper apocalypse, I decided to bring out the author's other lesser known quiz.  It's pretty simple as it is just a trivia quiz but its still fun :D. Just click the link below to start taking the quiz!

Minecraft Trivia Quiz

P.S. The author of these quizzes is a heavy troller. The last question of the quiz i provided above is hilarious and very troll-ish :P

I scored 73% on the Minecraft Trivia Quiz. How much do you know about Minecraft?

Discussion forum / Quick question about forum profiles...
« on: January 29, 2012, 11:09:15 am »
So just a quick question fellow forum-goers. I've noticed that many people have their ingame rank on their profile. I was wondering how I could do that?

Also feel free to redirect me to a thread that answers this (if one exists). Additionally, im not sure if this in the right section so feel free to move the thread.
