The Poet's Release-A Creative/Favorite Poetry Thread
« on: June 13, 2012, 07:22:23 am »
Today, I was on Opticraft Classic, just sitting there and talking to the classic go-ers. Our conversation had turned to our favorite poetry and I realized that there are lovers of poetry on Opticraft. We had some of Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost and other famous poets. We also surprisingly had some creative poems that were written by the Opticrafters themselves and I must say they were truly beautiful to read. So I decided that Opticraft needed a place to express themselves in poetry on the forums, a place where they can share and read others poems.

As the title suggests, the purpose of the thread is to either post your own creative poems or post a poem by your favorite authors. It's a really simple concept and I know you will all enjoy reading your friends' poems, as much as I will enjoy reading them all. As long as you follow the simple rules below, you are free to do anything you wish with your poems.

Here are the rules, plainly and simply:

Rule Number 1: No vulgarity. I don't want to see any crude, sexual or offensive poems. I will leave it at that.

Rule Number 2: No (excessive) profanity. I understand a few cuss words will appear in a poem from time to time, so I will not be so harsh on that rule. However, if found excessive, punishments will be administered.

Rule Number 3: You may use any poems that do not conflict with rules 1 and 2. Make sure you give full credit to the original owner of the poem. After all, they did take the time to write it so show some respect .

With the rules now stated, I wish you all happy posting! I cannot wait to see all the creative poems that will be posted on here!

P.S. I'd like to thank Alpha_Lance, Kodak28, OwlGirl66 and various others for inspiring me with this thread. I grant Alpha_Lance full access of this thread, as its moderator and editor, making sure rules are followed and met. He may change rules as needed and I fully believe in him. Good luck Alpha!

All the poems minus the last one were just ideas I wrote on the spot during these conversations that DJ mentioned. Enjoy

Death; become known among all mortals of flesh, blood, and bone. The time has come to gaze upon the eternal blackened abyss, eternal night, engulfed in the center of the void or the bottom of all despair. All shall know thy names and courage as you plummet to your doom and all that you have accomplished in life has forever been etched into the planets memory. As you threw away your worldly desires and your life in vain

Eternal is bliss, forever more. No life shall escape my lips. Forever silent, forever sound; forever moving, always searching. Attempting to find the love of my life; never ending, always beginning; new wounds appearing, old wounds closing. The path I walk, I can never see, forever blinded and forever in darkness; never to see the light.

Enough of your low self esteem, the world awaits you outside your doors and windows. Venture into the open fields and suburban lands. Vanish into the jungles or dwell deep into Earth. Ocean breezes, tropical beaches, beautiful scenery; and gorgeous women. The world is out there, right here, right now! Seize this opportunity and reach for your desires. The world is waiting, the Earth is singing; our system is turning. Time won't wait, death draws near. Enjoy every moment you have as if it were last... For it may become your last.

Rabbits, rats, and snakes; dinner for the owl that never sleeps… Beak, talons, and nocturnal; she shall swoop down upon all sleeping prey. Rabbits caught in talons, rats snapped like twigs, and snakes heads bitten off. Carried back to their homes; too feed all their young. Owls are predators as well as mothers, in this world where nature rewards survival of the fittest.

(Last, but not least, my first poem created in 2005)

As the flames burned throughout the night, so did my heart through love and despair. All was lost and all was gone. No one shall ever begin to imagine how I feel. As the sun shined so ever bright, it brought new hope and dreams to my life, but as the darkness comes; it shall start again. For it was my gift, as well as my curse, for eternal life, I must spend.

If I come up with more, I'll be sure to post. Once again, hope you enjoyed them.
"That's why we must form an army and make them wish they had never been rendered."

Logic over emotion in my reasons. Good luck to those who rage over my decisions.

TIME FOR DEPRESSION.

Seriously, I wrote these poems when I was really upset, so...yeah... ._.

Humans never change.
Disgusting, vile creatures.
For years, all we've done is fight, kill, and betray.
When an animal does this, its for survival.
When humans do it, its for pleasure.
Oh sure, we've "evolved" as they say, but evolved into what exactly?
Monsters? Killing machines?
Even the most gentle person is a sadist on some level.
They bathe in the stench of blood and fear.
Destroy for power and dominance.
They're driven by the seven sins.
Greed, lust, pride, Wrath, gluttony, sloth and envy.
These things fuel us.
They're our power.
We cheat.
We say we're strong, yet we're not.
All we've done is create things that do the work for us.
True, I am a human as well, but that just means I am the same.
Humans are called "flawed".
Flawed? No, try broken.
We never changed before, so why do people think we will now?

Life is bittersweet.
The delicious candies of life,
Tingling your taste buds.
The rush is quick though.
The candy deteriorates,
And you're left with the hollow taste,
Of what once was.
The sweetness fades with time.
The feeling becomes a quiet echo.
The taste turns sour.
Bitter and tangy.
The rain of your parade has fallen,
And you're left without an umbrella.
You try to wash away the taste;
To take cover from the rain.
But you know its useless.
The rain has fallen, and so have you.
But regardless, you go for another piece of candy,
Just to feel the high of joy.
Bittersweet.
That's all the candy is.
That's all life is.

Now for my semi-almost-happy poem. :P

When we are born, we are cute little things.
We laugh, we cry.
But mostly, we are ourselves.
A child starts with a carefree, creative spirit.
With what we're born with, we can accomplish anything.
However, ever so slowly, that spirit is crushed.
They teach us how to act; how to think.
The spirit full of bright colors,
slowly becomes black and white.
Eventually, the black and white fight each other for dominance.
The battle of life.
Soon, the two colors mold into a dull gray.
Any sparks created by the battle fade,
leaving a lifeless, hollow soul.
A clone; a puppet.
That's what they made.
They've destroyed us from the inside-out.
Its a scary thought, I know what their doing.
They're trying to make us perfect.
It wont happen, I refuse.
I refuse to be crushed.

EDIT: *rereads* Jeez, I was a depressing kid. o.o

I was minding my own business when you stole my heart
you cherished it like it was a piece of art.

It was there for you, on your queue
there for you whenever you were feeling blue

my heartbeat was music made just for you
it made me believe love at first sight was true

but then it grew old and it felt old
the music made for you no longer had a hold

now im falling apart, im nothing without my heart.
i dont have that work of art.

its still in its box, you still have the key
you still own that part of me.

I wrote this poem for you but now its too late
all you feel is regret and hate :’(

Credit- Me.
this was actually my first try at writing something.

Holy balls.
Do not be afraid of your mistakes in the past Embrace them, Cherish them, and Reflect on them.

Alpha, brilliant as usual. I see that you examine our positions in the world, who we are, what we do and why we do it. I think I read most of those poems on irc when we were posting them.

Alicia, I love how your poems have a very slight hint of irony. To be honest, I really don't think you are a depressing kid just because of these poems  ;). I think you are just describing humanity as you see it, is all. You expressed your feelings well. Amazing job.

PsykoWo1F, I am positively sure I have read that poem before on a different thread. Don't listen to everyone. I know it was intended for Ella but it doesn't mean it is anymore. Besides it was pretty creative when you first wrote it so its nice that its posted here now. A poem of broken hearts. Great job.

And now for my poem. Since I am not a very well written poet, I shall go on to just post a favorite poem instead. I have many favorites but I thought I would start with something on an "elementary" level, something I enjoyed reading as a a younger child. There may or may not be any deep personal connections to it but I love it anyways :P. This poem is by Shel Silverstein.

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

I love Shel Silverstein, I did especially when I was younger.

Always a classic, from "Through the looking glass; and what Alice found there"

Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
  And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
  The frumious Bandersnatch!"
He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
  And stood awhile in thought.
And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
  And burbled as it came!
One, two! One, two! And through and through
  The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
  He went galumphing back.
"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
  He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
  Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
  And the mome raths outgrabe.

Tomorrows fathers day, (or rather today now) - I hope everyone has a wonderful time with their families.

-

Dread the night as the dead forever slumber, anxious, but brittle, and chilled to the bone. Awaiting the rising sun for the new day ahead... Though the day may be blessed and filled with cheer. This waiting in darkness, makes one feel death draw ever near.
