Why not run battles then. Players can use a command to "sign up" for the next battle (Costs 1K), and then the winner of the battle in the other world (last man standing) gets all the money spent by everyone else in the battle.

Well, then perhaps Mods could give that permission. Just not any permission other than the pvp world permission.
But there needs to be someone who speaks to the player directly to ensure the message gets accross that there is no staff support in the pvp world (other than for grief support or lava/water).

We can please everyone sort of. All we need is a pvp world. This is similar to the pvp zone suggested by the op. Personally, I think this could count as the original suggestion revised. I suggest that there be a small overworld made. Like perhaps 1,000 by 1,000 blocks at the most (or maybe 750 by 750).

In this world, and this world only, people still can't grief, but there will be no such thing as lwc (lwc would be disabled only for this world if it is possible). Deathtraps would be allowed, and so would killing others of course. These rules would allow pvp combat, sort of allow raids, and survival in this particular world would be tough.

The spoiler contains my PVP world mechanics in more detail, but here is the shortened version:
 - All players must get permission from staff before getting access to the pvp world.
 - PVP world spawn/warp is protected and is a safe zone to prevent spawn killing.
 - No lwc in this world (detailed mechanics explains why).

The above mechanics allow for pvp and a harsh survival world for those who like that stuff. At the same time the above mechanics also prevents players from complaining that they lost their stuff as they would have been given very strict warning by the staff before given access to the world.

Yes, this is good and bad, but I dundz like how so few players can cut the whole server off from the end entirely.
It was temporary for peoples safety

Could you elaborate on that a bit?

Tons of people kept going to _gavin's /home end. Then they were killing each other. _gavin removed the home, and the only people remaining were he and I, iGen, and one or two others. _gavin even asked me to leave, but then changed his mind deciding that he could trust me not to attack anyone. In the meantime we PM'ed Nick, and a few minutes later he came on to disable pvp in the new end. Then _gavin re-made his /home end, and I announced over global chat that the end could be accessed through his home.

By protecting players we mean:
Keeping them from getting killed (by each other)
Keeping them from getting banned since killing other players is illegal on this server.

But forget it now. The end is public. Personally, the only piece of the end I want is the tower I claimed with a PS, and the little bit of land the PS protects around the tower. I used a diamond PS, but I'm soon going to remove it and place a lapis ps instead.

Yeah, once we all figured out that the end had pvp enabled, we all kinda blocked off the end to everyone else. We made it public again after Nick came on and removed pvp from the world.

_gavin, I think Nick also got pissed off at you protecting most of the end lol. He was pissed at me as well until he realized I was only taking one of the towers.

Personally I'd be all for there being saddles and horse armor, but I'd suggest it be expensive kind of like how beacons are expensive to keep the number of them owned down.

No don't worry about difficulty. All you need to worry about is making sure each spawning cell is the correct distance from the others so they don't merge into a single village. Also, if you build a very large farm, you will need to use minecart rails that keep you close enough to the spawn cells for the golems to move.

My gold farm in the works holds 11 by 25 portals. It is 3 layers of portals high for a total of 825 portals. I plan on having no less than 11 layers of portals which will be 3025 portals. I might do more than that, but at the moment 3025 sounds like a good number. Note I'm not talking block dimensions, I'm talking about the number of actual portals.
