I saw on another server a pig spawner at the spawn, I was wondering if that could be done on this server. It would help new players get started and be a way to get easy food.
Just a suggestion.

You should already start with food like stake apples and bread.

We give new guests and members start packs, these should make any player joining the game for the first time easier to get going,

We understand sometimes you want more than want you get due to the quantities other others provide but as of right now it is not subject to change.

Not only do new players get food, they get tools which allow them to quickly start collecting materials.  There IS a market right by the spawn that buys materials and sells food.  There shouldn't be any reason on this server for anyone to be starving, unless they're doing it wrong.

That would:
1) Make the value of pork 0
2) Make the area flooded with hungry fellos. (Maybe not; most people have no trouble getting food.)
3) Create a new-found laziness in some players

Getting food really isn't that hard.
My first day on this server I already had a simple melon farm going, and in itself it could more than feed me and all of my friends.

Plus you are given food when you start, and if you sign up on the forums you get $500, which you could spend on food and seeds at /warp market.

Remember, this is surpose to be a Survival server, I think we're pushing it already with a market.

Though I think when implemented correctly (which this seems to be), it can add a new level of fun to a server.

It gives people goals (like raise $1,000,000), and keeps people hooked for a longer period of time.

And the way this is set up, the only "real" shops (buy/sell with a sign) are the ones at the market.
Due to that, most of the sales will take place at market, but people still have the option of selling/buying with each other. (Creating more of a community in a sense, and allowing users to sell items that can't be sold at the market.)
And the market prices are set so you do have to work if you plan on buying supplies there. (Ex: I was selling gold blocks at market, and I accidentally bought three of them. Cost me $3000 each, and I could only sell them back for like $500.)

Doing this also allows players to focus on one area is they so wish, such as mining, and purchase say, logs, from the market.

Players can also choose to simply not use the market if they so wish, and just play a plain survival game with their friends or by themselves.

Long story short, it helps create a more diverse player base, it allows the same feel of survival to remain, it gives it the real feel of a multi-player server, and it gives players more to do, which in turn results in them staying longer and potentially donating/inviting friends.

And holy crap, I just realized how off-topic that is from pig spawners, so I'm just gonna stop.

And I agree with you, but it's still the players choice whether they use it or not, and people don't have an endless supply of money either. (Unless they worked for it that is. And the only thing that makes this null is those who have immense melon farms, where all they have to do is flip a lever to get more money.)
This could actually be a good use for multiple worlds too. (With economy/without economy.)
That would be nice in the sense that if you want to play a real survival game, you can. Players could also switch between worlds depending on how bored they were.

But yes, let's drop it. This is my last post related to it, no feuds need be started.

Almost broke my rule and argued my point in defence to ragequiter13's post, but I caught myself last minute.

Personally I think people have it too easy to begin with.  Survival means survival.  It doesn't mean marketplace, money, etc. etc. etc.

People forget how easy they actually have it on a server like this.  Go and play real survival on single player and then judge how hard it is to survive on this server.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!? No offense, but I think the server is EASY! I have much more stuff than I need. I personally think optical should add something harder in the server.

Guys the point to a survival server is to SURVIVE.  If you really want to have a spawner to use go find one. I co-own a town and we have found 4 right underneath the town they aren't that hard to find.

It is just like a new Singeplayer server. Only the first days you have it hard. When you have a house and a lot of stuff (and a lot of money) it is easy. If you remove the market it don't make any differences. If we have the Member+ world it would by more survival, because that is new.
