(I don't know if this is in the right forum)

Does anyone know how to download a mod into your minecraft game for single player..... I am a total noob when it comes to computer things so, sorry if this question seems idiotic,

I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me with like totally obvious step-by-step instructions....

Thanks!

1: get win rar
2: downlaod the mod
3: open a file in your minecraft bin folder (in %appdata%) labeld minecraft with win rar do the same thing with the folder containing the mod
4: highlite all the files in the mod folder and drag them into the minecraft file

and you SHOULD have a mod im not sure but thats what i do

*double noob face* What's win rar?

It's like a converter.

Nope. WinRar sucks though, get 7zip.

What 7zip and WinRar does, is it lets you open up zipped/.rar type folders, the minecraft.jar and the mod you downloaded requires that to be opened so you can take the files out of the zipped/.rar type folder.

ah I figured it out... thanks guys! (y'all can lock this if ya want)

I ended up watching a vid from this site as  well : http://paulsoaresjr.com/2011/03/28/minecraft-tutorial-how-to-install-7-zip-and-use-it-for-modding-minecraft-jar/

so just in case someone is as noobish as I am they can go there too...

Paulsoaresjr is a baws.

Yes... I like that he explains every little thing, super clearly, and to every possible thing. Soooooo helpful

It is easier to rename minecraft.jar to minecraft.zip, extract it and paste the class files in.

Ok, im a pro at installing mods so here's my tutorial:
ALWAYS BACK UP MINECRAFT.JAR BEFORE INSTALLING MODS!!!!!
(1)First you download modloader
http://www.minecraftdl.com/modloader/
(2)After doing that, find some mods (e.g. TMI, Mo-creatures, Finite liquid mod, etc.) and download them
(3)Use 7zip (or WinRar) to extract the files from the modloader and the mod you just downloaded.
there should be some .class files.
(4)type %appdata% into the Run program (Windows only) and locate Roaming > .minecraft > bin > minecraft.jar
(4)or, you could go to My computer > C: > Users > [Username] > appdata > Roaming > .minecraft > bin >minecraft.jar
(5)once you have located minecraft.jar, right click it and select open with... 7zip (or WinRar)
(6)drag the .class files from the modloader and the mod you want to install into minecraft.jar
(7)delete the folder called META-INF
(8)Close it all down, rum minecraft and have fun!

--Skepter

(Xtra)If it doesn't work, the mod you installed is mucked up or broken
