The price of pstones are sorta weird. I'm saying that the bigger the ps is, the more you pay per block. A lapis size block fits 4 coal pses. A coal ps costs 1500. A lapis one costs 10000. These prices, in relation to each other, are really weird. 1500x 4= 6000.

So, why are the prices like this?

U do realize 9 coal protection stones are in total the size of 1 lapis protection stone? , 1500$ x 9 = 13500$ , So 10000$ is a good price compared to the coal protection stone.

it are 8 coal psses in the space of a lapis one

$1500 * 8 = $12000

so lapis psses are cheap compared to coal ones

Technically you can only fit 1 coal ps inside a lapis without overlap.... But if we're looking at space for space then

21x21x21= 9261
11x11x11= 1331

9261/1331=~6.958

6.958x1500= 10,437

so if anything you saved ~$437

Anyway I think the pstone prices are fine, diamond is a tad pricey for the area it protects, but if they were too cheap people could use them to grief and make more work for the mods. #runonsentence

Wha? I'm confused. Its 4 coal ores in one lapis. Lapis goes down 11, up 11, 11 to the right, and 11 to the left. Thats 4 coal pstones.

a coal ps is a 11x11x11 cube
a lapiz ps is a 21x21x21 cube

therefore the total area for a coal ps is: 11x11x11 = 1331 blocks
therefore the total area for a lapiz ps it: 21x21x21 = 9261 blocks

if we look at the number of times we can fit 1331 blocks into a 9261 block space, that's the same as saying "find how many times the area of a coal ps fits inside the area of a lapiz ps"

9261 divided by 1331 = (about) 6.958

therefore 6.958 (just under 7) coal ps fit inside a lapiz ps when we're looking at area for area. not 4, 8, or 9.

and 6.958 (number of coal in lapiz) times 1500 (price of a coal ps) = $10,437

so you save $437 by buying a lapiz ps over buying 6.958 coal ps which would be the equivalent in space protected

i believe you're confused on the size of the protection stones.

a coal ps extends 5 blocks in every direction plus 1 central block (namely the coal ore). so 5 blocks left + 5 blocks right + 1 block for ps = 11 blocks = 11x11x11 cube

a lapiz ps extends 10 blocks in every direction plus 1 central block (namely the lapiz ore). so 10 blocks left + 10 blocks right + 1 block for ps = 21 blocks = 21x21x21 cube

this is also why i said you can only fit one coal ps inside a lapiz without overlap since, if we were to, for example, place a coal ps snugly in the bottom corner of a lapiz ps it would leave 10 blocks to the left, right and top, forming 10x10x10 cubes around it and you can't fit any more 11x11x11 cubes inside the 10x10x10 spaces since 11 is bigger than 10.....

each of the smaller cubes represents a coal ps, and the cubes put together would make a lapiz ps, of course there would be overlap where they come together but lets ignore that for the sake of simplicity.

also it's physically impossible to build a cube out of 4 or 9 cubes which is why it could never be 4 or 9 coal ps making 1 lapiz, tho 8 would work, however 21 isn't evenly divisible by 11 and that's a whole other issue.... in an effort to explain why this is lets look at another random google image......

so the first cube you see is our "unit cube" or a coal ps for our issue at hand

the second cube would be our lapiz ps

(for simplicity) the lapiz ps is 2 coal ps in width, but that means it's also 2 coal ps in length, if we were to stop right here you'd have 2x2 = 4 coal ps which is how many you believe it to hold, however, to keep it a "cube" you need 2 coal ps in height so the actual result is 2x2x2 = 8 coal ps to make a lapiz

unfortunately, getting back to the fact that 21 isn't evenly divisible by 11, we can't just stick 2 coal ps next to each other in every direction and say 2x2x2 = 8 coal ps to make a lapiz. in our case 2 coal ps wont fit next to each other inside a lapiz ps or there would b block overlap. this block overlap is the reason why the 2 posters before me came up with 8ps = 12k (about 2k off) and 9 ps = 13.5k (about 3.5k off). and all this leads to having to look at how many times we can fit the area of a coal ps into the area of a lapiz ps to get an accurate idea of price vs space which is all that math i explained in the beginning of the post.

For people who don't want to read all of tiggys post (even though you should) A lapis pstone is also twice as tall as a coal pstone so you need 8 instead of 4 coal pstones. 4 coal pstones will make it 21x21x11 the lapis pstone is 21x21x21.

Oh I'm sure most people will skip it over since most people hate reading, and even more hate learning. But it's there for the ones that want to educate themselves.

The concepts can actually be expanded to almost everything in minecraft because each block represents a unit cube, so it applies to a lot more than just pstones

Fun fact: in video games your speed decreases wen you travel diagonally to compensate the fact that traveling the length of the diagonal of a square is a longer distance than from one side to the other, this gives the illusion of traveling at the same speed regardless of direction and is done to maintain the distance covered

I actually thought is was squared too, but I guess cubed makes sense, it IS a cube...... right? Lol
