Pick up monster spawners

Chief149

So my idea involves allowing the picking up of monster spawners. Basically I found a plugin that allows players to harvest the spawner which of course means the player could actually move the spawner somewhere.

This wouldn't change the number of mob spawners in the world as it would only allow players to move them (assuming that's all we use the plugin for. Of course if the optional features are used then there are many more possibilities).

Here is the link to the plugin that does everything this idea proposes, and it also lists the optional features, and other details of the plugin.

I'm sure people will dupe spawners and sell them.

Chief149

you are assuming that people can dupe items...

Technically you can't unless you are an expert hacker.

Spamarian

Duplication of items, is done by a command.
You dont need to be a hacker.
You need just to break the rules.

I would like to get 2-3 spawners and to have then very close, but this would remove once again the survival spirit.
I am against that, and I believe that its not gonna get implemented.

Spyow

I would like to see this in the game, with silk touch or something, however I can almost guarantee this idea will not be implemented, as spamarian stated.

That is 100% wrong.

Allowing people to pick up spawners would be too much of a convenience to x-rayers.

...In addition, the rules state that players can not own spawners.  You can (loophole alert!) construct protected buildings around them, but you can't own the actual spawner itself.  So picking up a spawner would, in fact, be a violation of the rules.

SalasCraft

What you say Spam, is also wrong. Item duplication is not done by a command.
It's simply a glitch in the game which people exploit.

Then all of the people who sell spawners are breaking the rules. You can't sell something you don't own...

Also there probably aren't any more known working item dupe glitches that haven't been patched on this server...
and if there are then they'd be reported immediately to be patched.

If you want to get technical, they are selling the area around the spawner.

Chief149

Then what about the people selling access to their spawner for a few hours? They are selling access to something they own otherwise you can't sell access to something you don't own. Next off, when people are selling their spawners, they say "Selling spider spawner for 3K!" instead of "Selling area around spider spawner for 3K!".

Why aren't people allowed to own spawners anyways? What harm would that be? Plus it would be obvious if someone duped spawners because they would have an odd number of them which would look suspicious and lead to a ban.

They cant own spawners directly because there is no way to indicate who owns a spawner. Someone else could come along and claim it and then we would have no idea who really owns it.

:P
U know ive understood we cant directly own spawners but i never really thought why, now that makes sense. U cant use logblock to check cuz its natural, so that means anyone could say its theirs

And again, if you want to get technical, they are selling access to the BUILDING for a set amount of time.  It just so happens the spawner is inside the building.

But to clarify, it's just easier for them to SAY they're selling a spawner, or selling access to a spawner.  Arguing the point is just arguing semantics.

Xeadin

No. This will not happen. We have enough problems already with people destroying mob spawners and trying to carry them around already and placing them wherever-- turning them into PIG spawners. How do we know that this plugin will work and spawn the mob it spawned upon placement first of all?

We're not going to play around with semantics all day. Either it works or we can't use it-- plain and simple.

And I agree-- this VIOLATES the rule about owning mob spawners-- YOU DON'T OWN THEM. You can build AROUND them and claim ownership of the sturcture around it, but you CANNOT own the mob spawner block itself.
