This is definitely a good idea but before we do this we have to fix what ever caused players to leave in the first place, or else they will all just leave again.

What made a lot of people initially leave was when melons, pumpkins, and cacti were banned from the market. Then a few more people left when gold/iron ingots were banned too. But, banning those things is understandable.

Also, SMP's main traffic flow came from Classic back when Classic would have hundreds of people in any given moment. There were ads telling those people about our SMP server and some eventually migrated over (a lot of our senior staff and members started in Classic). But when Classic died, that source of traffic stopped. So Mojang can be blamed for that one for killing off Classic.

Another thing that may have attributed to people leaving, based on what I've heard anyway, may be our reluctance to change and adapt with what the rest of the Minecraft community likes (good pvp, creative, factions, skygrid etc.). So, people eventually lost interest here.

So ya, a lot of things contributed to our loss of players.

But that's all besides the point (I don't want to veer off topic) that connecting us to Planet Minecraft would help us

Great idea. Would like to see Opticraft come back to life.

Doesnt the donations already have the ability to pay for additional homes. Abd you shouldn't just purely be voting for diamonds or one additional home because let's face it optical needs the publicity so the server doesnt die
I already admitted that afterwards (honestly, this topic should be deleted as the suggestion isn't good after all). Also, what I was saying was that most people don't actually vote (just clicking on "Vote" doesn't register the vote on that website; you have to actually fill out the captcha).

Unless it has changed very recently, this is already a perk of bonus homes.

That's true. I did not consider that. I suppose it would be cheaper to donate for 5 homes than this if the price was what I suggested.

Suggestions / Donation Perk: No Voting to /home Additional Homes
« on: May 16, 2014, 03:50:45 am »
I think there should be a donation perk that allows people to use their additional homes without having to vote first every 24 hours or so.

The player would have to donate about $30-$40 to do this (depending on what's agreed if this suggestion is accepted), making it the highest donation option. But when somebody does donate for it, they will be able to warp to their additional /homes without having to vote.

Even though this would mean that people won't be voting I think this will benefit the server due to these reasons:

1.) Let's face it, most people don't fill out the captcha on the voting sites, and /homes are probably the main reasons people vote, so this will give people an incentive to donate without having to go on the site to "vote".
2.) This will be another way people can donate to the server to keep it running. And since a lot of people don't actually vote, them donating for the ability to not have to "vote" to use their /homes will actually help the server possibly more than if they actually voted (As I'm sure there's more people who would want the ability to go to their /homes without having to vote every so often, and, as said before, most don't actually vote anyway).

Suggestions / Re: Alternative for creative

I think if it were possible to do on the server (without having to get a new box and a new payment) we should do it that way to at least see if new people are interested who hadn't experienced what it was like to build with some of the best of OpticRaft before
It would have to be with a new box.

Why? As far as I understand, Opticraft is hosted on a dedicated server/VPS, not by a Minecraft Server hosting company, right?
Yes, and it is controlled by optical.
Is the original suggestion for this alternative for creative being on the smp server with use of WorldGuard not going to work?
not without some extra coding. Unless you want the ranks to never be able to play the smp portion again.

Add a rank, let ops promote and demote. People can request to be made creative or not at will. Would that work?
Yes but its not practical, every time you would get demoted the OP would have to clear your inventory. Not to mention that we only have a limited number of op's.

And hedge, this is an SMP server, we are not going to put in a rank where you can no longer play the game mode that this server is about.

What part of the original suggestion did you like? Because that pretty much was the suggestion; sacrifice ability to have money and sell at the market for creative.

lol I thought that was part of the original suggestion: "To that I crafted the idea of these building ranks not being able to sell items to the market thus sacrificing their ability to play in survival to build with an unlimited amount of blocks." To which I, at least me, wouldn't have a problem with that if I were that rank.

I really like this idea and hope something gets worked out for it to work.
I think it'd bring a whole lot of life back to the creative side of our players.  Eagerly awaiting to see the results of it
I feel a creative server is more likely due to it being much easier for us to accomplish.

While it seems more likely that a Creative server would be made, I kind of like the idea more of building on the server itself (or at least building with terrain. In all honesty building on nothing but flatness got really old on Classic. If it were up to me, there'd be terrain on the Creative server, if one happens).

Are you getting an error, or is Minecraft crashing?

If it's the io.netty.handler.timeout.readtimeoutexception error, that's a mojang thing.

I've had that and "Internal Exception: java.io.IOException: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine"

Idk if this is just only for Opticraft or Minecraft in general, but the server has been crashing a lot the past few days.
Is this Opticraft or is this a Mojang issue?
