Boats are buggy at the moment. Hopefully 1.8 sorts them out.

Yeah, for the moment, boats is the only buggy feature you can not use.

Yes, 1.7 doesn't have oceans. But when 1.8 comes out, you'll see some.

Those are just large lakes. Oceans are huge in case you haven't seen the ocean on the world map.

I found an ocean to show you how big they actually are. It took me 1 minute 30 seconds to cross it.
