It looks like the link to my resource pack has stopped working, so here again is temporary access to my resource pack so you can see my city the way it is meant to be seen.  Optifine is required for it to work properly:

I put in a bit of work the last few days on building two new upper class domes.  Thanks to Hopper and imagamer for hollowing them out first.

People buy experience?

Can you do a big promotion for people to buy homes/money/etc now before the EULA kicks in?  Last chance!  Get it before its gone!  Buy now!

Hmm, are they trying to squeeze out private servers to funnel more people into their own servers?

A bit.  But only in the broadest sense.  Honestly I've been more keen on being different from Rapture than emulating it.  They are constructed quite differently.  Rapture looks kind of like submerged 1940's New York City.  My city is mostly in domes and underground.  Rapture is also self-sustaining and inaccessible.  Aquain is set up to be connected to the world and have plenty of trade and commerce and tourism (a lot of that still is yet to do).

The biggest similarity (besides being an underwater city) is the art deco.  Yea, both cities certainly have that in common.  But I still see Aquain being set in the future, with future/current technology, not in the past.  I have a lot of work yet to do on all the small bits of flavor for my texture pack and city.

I think I drowned a bit early on, but I've been pretty good about it since then.  I've gotten pretty good at building underwater.

As for leaking.. yea, it can be a pain.  It is all under city protection, so thankfully no one griefs it and leaves things all flooded, but except for the domes most of the city is underground (under the sea floor), so often I'll be working on something underground and discover that clearing space for a ceiling results in letting in water from outside.  That can be a pain, but usually isn't hard to fix, just makes things take a bit longer.

That is one frustration about building this city, everything takes longer to do.  I wish I had more done by now, but it is slow going, I don't have a whole lot of time, and I don't have as much help as I'd like.

Suggestions / Re: Purchasing In-Game add-ons...In-Game
« on: April 26, 2014, 12:26:57 am »

Mob Disguises      = $10 Donation or 100,000 in-game credits per disguise
Additional Homes = $10 Donation or 100,000 in-game credits for 5 additional homes
Titles                  = $20 Donation or 200,000 in-game credits
Teleport              = $15 Donation or 150,000 in-game credits
Hats                    = $5  Donation or 50,000 in-game credits

There is always the possibility of convincing some nice player with a credit card to donate on your behalf in exchange for in-game incentives.  I've done it for a few people before, I assume others have as well.

Feel free to make me an offer.  :)

I've been working on the docking bay recently.  I added a big sub in a new port, it is like the 747 of submarine travel.

Also, since this is basically the Aquain equivalent of an airport/train station, I'm putting in some basic shops.

Here is a newsstand I built (and one of the magazines for sale):

You can set a limited number of homes though, and can teleport between them for free.

General Discussion / Re: Site Merger?
« on: March 26, 2014, 09:32:23 pm »
How would merging with another community differ from finding a way to welcome in a huge influx of new players?  I know a lot of people want to see lots of new people come to Opticraft.  How would 50 new people finding their way here independently be different from 50 new people who had played together previously?

General Discussion / Site Merger?
« on: March 26, 2014, 03:17:12 pm »
So I've seen it mentioned in several places and in several threads, people are concerned about Opticraft dying.  Obviously there are fewer people than before.  There is a feeling out there that the server is in a downward spiral. What can be done?

Some have suggested we vote more to get higher on rankings sites, others say we need to be more welcoming of new people, others want us to make more efforts to bring in our friends.  All good ideas, but if they haven't happened yet it seems unlikely that they will now.

Some say that new features or changes in the server could attract more people.  I don't really agree. Adding PvP didn't make any difference.

What do people think about seeking out other servers in our situation to merge with?

If we could cobble together 2-3 other sites about our size, combine our forums, preserve the maps for all the servers, it could provide a new burst of activity and double or triple the size of our community.  Seek out other servers that have similar settings to ours so a union would be smooth.  It could work.

It would allow us to keep our core community together instead if waiting for attrition to separate us into dozens of other servers.

I know it is perhaps a radical suggestion, but I just wanted to put it on the table as a possible way forward. I don't like all the doom and gloom talk.  I'm not the most social guy on the server, but I'm not going anywhere.
