Project name: Deathwing

To visit use /home qu1cks1lva deathwing

Project location (coordinates, not biome, include world name): Member World @ x= -4200 z= 600

Contributors: blueted12345, CreeperK1tten, crippnfeet, daniblue182, dedlymagik, fcurcouch, L0rdv0ld, tankermide, Tiggy26668

Mayor: Qu1cks1lva

Approximate dimensions: 100 X 300 blocks approx

Covering the Starship and surrounding sky and sea at:

http://smp.opticraft.net/map/#/-4185/64/600/-2/0/0

Number of active residents: 3 (Qu1cks1lva, L0rdv0ld, CreeperK1tten)

Number of completed, decorated and furnished buildings:

Although technically 1 large structure, it is made up of various towers and other buildings e.g. the front bridge, deathwing insignia, carrier deck and main turrets are complete.

What state is the project in, and what are your plans for its future, if any:

The framework of the ship has been completed and the external structure is well underway, starting from the prow of the ship. The aim is to complete and fully detail the ship externally e.g adding the main bridge, reactor and engines before focusing on detailing the rest of the interior decks

Why should we grant this city protection?

Significant work has gone into the project over the last 2 months and the ship is basically there - the detailed work that really needs protection is now in progress

This is a very different build from my Member World one and hopefully it will provide some inspiration to other players. If the whole area were protected I would leave the ship permanently open and accessible to visitors. At present I have tried to secure and limit access as the size of the project makes it very difficult to use Protection Stones to protect it fully

Warning - the Captain is not responsible for visitors plunging to their doom or setting themselves on fire - starships are hazardous environments so be careful :)

I think the windows in the floating castle are excellent and certainly deserving of protection :) along with the rest of it of course

Oh, and the floor of the arena as well :P

I've had this in the past with larger fields e.g. diamond PS

I found adjusting the position of the PS slightly resolved the problem

City name: Emerald Keep (and grounds)

To visit use /home qu1cks1lva

City location (coordinates, not biome, include world name): Member World @ x=500 z=-700

Contributors: CreeperK1tten, dedlymagik, L0rdv0ld,  Miklo1997, milkkitty, MrPlatypus11, Qu1cks1lva, Saeberus, Sman6068

Mayor: Qu1cks1lva

Approximate dimensions: 250 X 250 blocks approx

(covering the castle and surrounding grounds inside the low perimeter wall embedded with coal protection stones and topped with jack o' lanterns, as well as the ditch/moat/lake etc inside the protection field around the perimeter wall. This includes an island just off the North East coast surrounded by a cobble wall)

http://smp.opticraft.net/map/#/578/64/-712/-2/2/0

Number of active residents: 3 (Qu1cks1lva, L0rdv0ld, CreeperK1tten)

Number of completed, decorated and furnished buildings:

Although technically 1 large building it is made up of ~20 towers and other buildings linked by curtain walls

What state is the project in, and what are your plans for its future, if any:

The perimeter wall has been built and the area inside landscaped and forested to provide a natural setting for the Keep.

The walls, towers and other buildings of the castle are complete externally with basic furnishings in place internally. A circular viewing railway has just been built as well. The whole castle has been built to be part of the landscape with minimal ground leveling/clearance and it is now being detailed

The next steps once the structures have been detailed is to extend the castle complex over the river bend it is on by building a further tower to the West and also a cathedral to the East in the forested hills overlooking the castle

Why should we grant this city protection?

Significant work has gone into the project over the last 2 1/2 months and the keep is now built - it no longer looks like a building site :)

Castles are a popular build for other players on Opticraft and hopefully it will provide some inspiration to other players. If the whole area were protected I would leave the castle permanently open and accessible to visitors. At present I have tried to secure and limit access as there have been a few instances of griefing and the size of the project makes it very difficult to use Protection Stones to protect it fully.

Good to see the issue has been sorted! I do have a related question...

Do admins generally perform land flattening services for players (who ask politely of course :) )

No I do not need any land flattening, I am just curious given it is a survival server...

Thanks,

^_^

I believe the issue here is basically caused by the high cost of protection. You need money to have more than the basic 11X11 field and diamond PS are by the far the most expensive items on the server. IMO this is a key reason why players to do what they can to get the huge sums required.

On another server I played on the problem was avoided by:

1) giving each registered member a few 75X75 areas with the option to buy a very limited additional amount over time. The protection area also went from bedrock to skylimit so this also gave players a protected source of income through mining as well as farming. This way survival was about the challenges of the server, not dealing with griefing of unprotected areas.

2) having a market that was player driven - it was mostly stalls with chests to buy/sell stuff from other players. Admin shops were limited to services, e.g. licences or a few very rare items. Basically other players provided what you need to survive, not the admin shops. There was no way of "selling to the sink"

3) using a naturally scarce in game item as currency - in this case gold. You either dug it up yourself, got it from voting or by selling something other players wanted - fortunes were measured in 100s of gold ingots not millions of dollars.

As a result the server was much more survival focused, and the need to raise cash for protection did not distort gameplay as IMO it does here
