It's best to go out and make the tools you need to survive, imo.
Survival server... it's in the name of the game! lol Or sign up on this site and vote a few times. You get a nice starter kit and diamonds for voting. I immediately made diamond tools and started mining like crazy.

Great post!
Two hints I would make to help protect against griefers:
-move your farm further away from the spawn.
-Consider growing underground. When mining, if you find a cave/ravine with an underground pond or water source, throw some rows of dirt around it, put up some torches and plant seeds! Griefers on the surface can't grief what they can't see.
Also... don't depend on trusted/moderators/ops, etc to bring water to your farm! Search the countryside a bit and find a place with natural water then build there. Be resourceful in trying to use the natural shape of the land to your advantage.
Find me in game and I may be able to help you set up a farm if I have time.

Well of course... only people who play on this server and generally enjoy it will be putting energy into being on this forum. I've only played on a few other servers and this one (though not perfect) has a lot of great features.

I'm not going to rag on you for spending crazy money. It's like building and driving a hot-rod of a car. Why do that when you can drive where ever you are going in a basic 4-door Toyota? Same goes for computers.
I built my own PC... a very modest i3 machine that's not really designed for gaming at all, then I built a home media server. When you do it, you learn a lot about how they work. You know where to look when things go wrong down the road. And you get everything exactly as you want it. It's fun too!
With a computer that powerful though... you may want to think about what else you can use it for other than gaming. There are lots of possibilities.

I think I figured it out... you just need to be a little patient with the server. The animals will see your wheat and follow you, but not as quickly as single player mode.

Some of the other threads I have read have debated the best way to make money. Growing/selling melons and mining iron seem to be the major activities that people brought up.
I'm pretty new here so I don't even know the answer for sure yet! I'm thinking mining might be a good way. I have not taken a close look at the market place to figure out what is most valuable to sell. I know it's not diamonds. I am sure there is one or two particular items that give you the best dollar for the effort.
After mining you can probably sell your building materials and time to those running major building projects in need of workers.
It's all part of figuring out how to succeed at the game I guess! I'll share more as I learn.

SO what's the deal with the animals around here? You dangle wheat in front of them and they don't follow? Is that a glitch? Is that supposed to happen?
It would be nice to domesticate and grow my own food. I loves my steak!

Thanks. I'm setting up shop on the SMP server for now. We'll see where things go from there. I like the element of challenge with the survival aspect of the game.
Also I am from the US. Male in my late twenties. Casual gamer... when work and life allows me some time to play.
I've noticed some servers have weird rules about sharing age, location and other details. Understandable since some players are younger and there are those occasional pedophile weirdos out there.

1. On this server, where do you re-spawn after you die? The last bed you slept in or back at the spawn castle when you started on the server?
2. Are there monsters on this server at night? I have not seen any in my brief time here!

I'm new to the community and I wanted to introduce my self.
I've been playing Minecraft for a few months now playing mostly survival single player and some creative mode, getting the hang of the game.
I find it remarkably simple yet you can do so much... create, collaborate, survive, conquest, hunt monsters... it makes the game incredibly addictive!
I like the feel of this server. I'm not not here to grief... just hoping to have fun, create, and contribute! Let me know if anyone needs any help with builds!
*I apologize in advance if there is already an intro thread... I did not find any in my searching!*
