When 1.2 comes out, maybe you could reset the world but transfer the player .dats and some way to not lose all those voting diamonds;)

Sorry, but i agree with Persianskitty because they would have to Rebuild the market, the spawn all of the villages and houses
chests, furnaces, protection stones and everything that everybody has earned and worked for will have all been a waste!
So to put this simply, the answer is

1.2 has a new change to the world creator, so that would mean that we would have to reset the map in order for these changes to take effect.

If there is a way to transfer the spawn and the warptowns to the updated map, we'd be able to do that, but as of right now things don't look to good as far as world generation is concerned. We might remain a 1.1-exclusive server for a while

Dang.....I'm guessing whe Optic does decide to move to 1.2 he won't be able to do something like a /world copy and a /world paste?  Even if it took hours for the pc to process these things I really don't wanna lose my projects in 1.1, but I do wanna have a server with 256 build height.....Ugh the sacrifices we have to make >.<

We will update to 1.2 as soon as possible and will not be resetting the map.
We are unsure on how we will incorporate the new 1.2 map features in, and we will take it as it comes.
One possibility we are considering is have multiple worlds, but we will see what happens when 1.2 comes out.

Oh yeah, Minecraft are now using Anvil worlds.
To fix this, they would have to close the server for a while, put the world on Single player, play it - while it converts it to Anvil
and then pop it back into the Bukkit server folder
