Also in the maths system the rest of the world uses > has always meant the thing before is bigger than the one behind.

And I did not know about the link that you sent me, I was always taught that X < Y means X is greater than Y (English based schools)

Let me give you a lil hint. I got to school in England, and > means that "and" is bigger than "means" in that example.

I was tought when i was in third grade (US school) that the <, and > are like crocodiles. They eat the highest number, because the higher it is, the better it is. :P
