Why Cant We Make Cobbblestone Generators

If you have no other reason for a cobblestone generator than just for the sake of creating one, you're better off mining cobblestone with a pickaxe. We don't like guests being lazy or expecting more than what is offered for no reason.
I, personally, have no use for a cobble generator because of said implications and the fact that I am better off mining than cheating.

If cobblestone generators are 'cheating' then why did notch make it so when lava hits water, it turns to cobble? Cobblestone generators are only water and lava placed in such a way that they make cobblestone for you to mine.

Well I'm sure he is using the term cheating loosely, maybe he feels it is cheating (as i do) even though he isn't breaking any rules.
