How Do I Start Playing?

How do i begin to start playing im a complete newb at minecraft, this would my first time playing. Help any1?

Find an open area, that has some trees. Then you break the trees, and once you collect them, turn them into wooed planks by pressing "e" on the keyboard. You will see your inventory, and there is something at the top right. It will say "crafting." put the wood in there and you will see an arrow next to it and you will collect the wooden planks.
