To these of you who say this would cause spam:

This message would only be displayed once per new player.  If I were joining the server for the first time, then you would see
"Welcome, Chief149 to the Opticraft server! Enjoy your stay!"

After that, the above message will never be displayed ever again for me,  but it wend be shown again if a new player comes up. It wouldn't be spam.

Give us all a toggle for displaying entering and exiting members, and for welcome notices and this would be great.

I think they mean everyone saying "Welcome Player!" would cause the spam, not the actual message.

Maybe but the player will feel welcome, and everyone saying ''Welcome Player'' will only be for a few seconds.

Opticraft- Best SMP server EVER
Go get em' :)

ChocolateChloe17

But what will happen if lots of new people come at once :P?

andersad

Then there would be some spam, but then it would be gone shortly thereafter.

Why not just modify the current "opticalza has joined the game" message for the first join? "opticalza has joined the game for the first time. Welcome to opticraft!"

Seems like this approach solves the spam issue and identifies new players.

That's what the suggestion was, and I agree. This is pretty much the best solution.

There's nothing wrong with a little chat spam if everyone is greeting a new player.

It would make him or her feel immediately accepted. It would make the new player feel like everyone wants to play with said player instead of going on their own and leaving that player to be more alone.
