Suggestions / Re: Adding some items to market

Why must there be a limit? It takes a lot of money already to build the platform for a beacon.
The reason is that if people could buy infinite nether stars, that means that there would be a spam of beacon blocks all over the map, which would look horrible. I guess we will just have to wait until Optical finds a solution to this potential problem. Beacons do look really cool, but not everywhere.

You only need nine blocks in addition to the beacon block in order to activate it. You can get that by voting in 17 days, not to mention how easy it is to mine and/or trade with villagers. Multiply that by the number of players on the server and the number becomes significant.

Edit: Thank you, Goalie Guy. I did consider that the star price would be a factor, but Pensfan did not include that as a reason and thus I did not see a need to discuss it. Star price will of course be large because spawning and defeating a wither is not a simple task. However, we have a LOT of rich players on the server that may be willing to buy nether stars in large quantities and possibly sell them second hand at lower rates, (reason for doing so: unknown). Though I doubt that players who have been with the server for a long time would misuse the beacons by excessive placement, the players that they sell nether stars to may not be as responsible and therefore beacon spamming could concievably occur. Limiting the purchase quantity would therefore resolve the issue effectively.

We got the griefer banned, and to me that felt like the right choice.

I'm sorry to post again, but the ends do not justify the means. Yes, inaction would seem inappropriate, but it isn't our responsibility (as non-staff members) to protect the server from griefers.

We all know you folks want to help out, but that's not the way to do it.
And besides, the main point of this was rather than sitting there watching him grief, doing nothing about it, we took action.

The main point is that the correct action was inaction. I respect your attempt at taking responsibility, but you are selling your integrity for a price far too cheap, which is in fact irresponsible.

He was not advertising, just saying that ours was bad and that it lagged(from what he told us, it was client-side).

In that case, just remember that people are always entitled to their own delusions.

So today a guest named Arromes was talking about how a server was better than ours (i wont say what server) and how opticraft was worse and all that stuff.

You do know there is a screenshot function in-game right? If you had taken a screenshot of this player's negative comments/promotion of another server, you could have submitted that to the staff on the forums or via PM and allowed them to take care of it under the assumption that he was advertising. Evidence is your best weapon in these situations. Don't fight fire with fire. Use a fire extinguisher! (expletives removed for your convenience)

Tell ya what, Chief. You program the pluggin for this amazing and incredibly pointless entertainment/art form, and optical may, if he's willing to (unlikely), consider adding it. If you could also program it so that people don't use more than a few blocks at a time so that a griefer doesn't cause massive lagspikes, that would be great.

I apologize for my sarcasm, but I'm having trouble keeping a straight face over this one.

I would like to call to your attention to this quote from optical.

And I quote from the topic, "Password to Vote"

Adding a password to vote would deter users. Also, we have no real authentication between minecraft and forum right now, so it would require a bit of work to get done, which is not worth it right now.

Selenium. Discovered in 1817, named for having properties similar to tellurium. The name is a derivative from the Greek word for selene, which is the moon.

Offtopic / Most embarrassing moment
« on: November 13, 2012, 06:03:32 pm »
Please relate (in as much detail as you feel comfortable giving) your most embarrassing moment. I'll start.

The events you are about to bear witness to occured a little under a decade ago. It all started with the wires. The wires are curious little things, they run all around the stage powering lights and microphones and speakers and things. The particular wires that I am interested in, however, are the ones that were meticulously placed on the stairs in front of the stage. Though I had been forewarned about said wires and had been, up to this point, successful in identifying and avoiding them, my feet chose at this time to become mysteriously attracted to the wires in order that they might remove the burden of one of my loosely attached shoes. Successful in their mission, my feet then had an argument because one was shod and the other was unshod. It was during the climax of this argument that a most peculiar event occured. It is the only time that I have heard five hundred people gasp at the exact same moment. It was a truly fascinating sound. After settling their differences my feet submitted themselves again to my will. I picked myself up from off the floor, retrieved my shoe, and proceeded quietly to my seat.

i mean like a bedrock room where u would have to be tped in by a mod+

Our mods are already busy enough. If they add the nether star to the market, (which appears to be fairly likely), then having the wither room would be far more trouble than it would be worth. You'd end up with people setting homes in the room as a grief trap and others trying to grab dropped items from player deaths. It would be like a server-made grief palace.

I find it quite annoying when I see non-staff members clogging the mod apps with their "support". For those that don't know, only staff can actually give meaningful support. It's great that the non-staffers want to support their friend and all, but it seems to clutter the topic excessively. I was curious to know if mod apps could be made so that only the staff had permission to post in reply to the topic. Thank you.

Suggestions / Re: Diamonds and Voting
« on: September 21, 2012, 07:42:17 pm »
The only bad thing about just getting in-game money is that people wouldn't want to vote as much, unless they were a great staff member and would do anything to help it.
Please explain, I don't understand your reasoning. And please abstain from using the indefinite pronoun "it".

That's the most well put suggestion I've ever seen from a newbie here :P
Thank you for the compliment.

I for one voted everyday for 2 months and racked up a stack of diamond blocks, so so that is 576 diamonds. If they was at 100 each that's 576k making me a millionaire right away, and seeing how many have more diamonds than I have then this would destroy the whole server economy, but I do like the idea of in game money.
Thanks for the numbers, they help to validate this point.
Now let me make this clear. I am NOT advocating that diamonds be added as an item to sell at the market NOR am I advocating that we decrease their purchase value. This would cause the undesirable result of serverwide protection stones and it would also create a nightmare for opti and the admins as they tried to balance prices out.

I agree with this, but I have my own sugestion, that the diamonds you get from voting are only for you. They can not be  droped or taken out of chests by other players or crafted in to blocks that can be placed ect. By doing this diamonds obtained legitly as in mineing can be worth more and can be sold / traded. Just an idea to think about.  :)
Interesting, but difficult to do. I think this would be more hassle than it's worth.

I totally agree with you.
And I totally agree with you.

There should be a little box you can check saying "Receive ingame money instead of diamonds" because I have enough diamonds. I don't see why we can't have another option some time. But I would like diamonds to stay as well, hence my box suggestion. As for actually voting, I'm guessing optical is just too busy with other stuff. Let's just count on the fact there are lots of loyal players who actually do vote because they like Opticraft like me and most of you readers do.
I don't mean to be harsh, but...
They could still buy diamonds if they wished, though maybe not at the same rate as they were recieving them before. And they would have to accept that the price of freedom is high. This would probably be the most difficult part as the sense of entitlement in today's world is exceedingly strong.
