Understatement of the century.
Recently had enough time to come back to Minecraft and was hit with a wave of nostalgia when I remembered all the times on Opticraft like 7+ years ago. I dunno if people even use this forum anymore, but thought I'd pop in and say hi.
I'm a Geologist, now; maybe ironic given all the time I used to spend on Minecraft. I just got back from a month-long trip doing field-work in Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone (WY). Working on my Masters at a nice international school that's paying me to do research and TA, which is nice. Rocks are cool, and they're very easy-going.
Is the creative server even live anymore? Or is there anywhere else people hang out? It'd be cool to get back in touch after such a long time away.

I'm here addressing the creative live map http://creative.opticraft.net:8123/?worldname=Metropolis#. Both Doc and I agree that the Builder world should be added to this list. There are two reasons, one being that a lot of the servers best builds are located in this world, and it would be beneficial in showing new members what can be accomplished on this server without requiring them to join the world and fly around looking at builds. The other reason being that doc and I (Im sure some other builders would agree, but are currently not active) would like to be able to see our builds, as well as space to construct another build, as it is somewhat sparse.

Builders do get access to //wand, which is somewhat helpful, but there is no way to measure the total amount of blocks in a specific build, or the breakdown of different blocks. I understand that this breakdown can be found using /lb me, but for one, a name change resets those stats, and for two, this shows the amount of blocks placed in the entire world, not a specific build. For example, with //wand, it counts the total amount of blocks in an area, but it includes air as a block, so when using it I end up with an insanely high number of blocks selected ( http://gyazo.com/2742471f035234395ee8527f20ba53d8). Both //count and //distr would not count air as a block and would help gauge progress. It shouldn't be a hard command to add. Since it's already a world edit command all you would need to do is edit permissions, and it would really be helpful to me, as well as other builders I'm sure. Thanks, velo

Something has recently come to mine, as well as some other staff's attention that needs to be dealt with. Please read this article. This applies to both Creative AND SMP, as well as any other server you play on. So basically, since this is the second time it's occurred while I've been on, I as well as Alicia agree that you all need to be informed about this "scam," of sorts. Basically, in both instances a new player joined the server and asked for a staff member. They both said "I found a book on the ground. Can you read it?" or something along those lines. Please heed my advice: DO NOT OPEN THE BOOK! Hacked Clients make it possible to send you to websites, or make you execute commands in Minecraft. In the first instance, two players read the book. Both said that their iTunes Account was opened up. In the second instance, the player was asking for an Admin to see the book, so we assume he was trying to Force OP. Please take precautions when dealing with players in game who do this, and try to prevent others from making this mistake as well. Please spread the word to prevent this from becoming a problem. If you see someone in chat doing this, take a screenshot and report it to me or a staff member as soon as possible. Thanks for your time, -Velo

Fore-note: I decided to start this post fresh because it seemed really cluttered, and not to mention the fact that there would be in the 100's of updates to post, which takes a lot of time, as well as space.AukisgroveAuki: force, strong, descendantWarp: /home SJ321987:AukisgroveRecommended Viewing Settings:Resource Pack: Conquest 1.8 with Optifine 1.8 Light Settings: Smooth Lighting- Maximum, 100% Brightness- Moody Fog Start- 0.4 Field of View: ~90Use connected textures, better snow, and Alternate blocks for full immersion! Ingame name: veloticy Join date: 28/2/15 Briefly describe all your creations: Firstly I have a large village settled in a canyon. I understand it is unfinished, but I believe that it accurately depicts my progress as a builder. I have decided to scrap it because I have developed a new style I personally believe is much better than this (can be seen in later screenshots). I plan to later remake this village in my new style once I achieve the builder rank. Secondly, I have a large building that was intended to be an inn, but most people call it a church :p. I guess it's whatever the viewer believes it is. Lastly, I have a few small houses that I used to develop a new roofing style as well as more creative housing layouts. What world/s are the creations on: Recruit6. I only have one warp; /home:veloticy:lovesosa, but all of the builds are situated around this build. If you need assistance finding my other builds, please just ask Links to screenshots of the creation: http://imgur.com/a/G7yOS#0Names of players who helped contribute: LunaLoveGood, tribalturtle, and pimkey5 for moral support Matthius and zeradeath for world editing (mostly large portions of grass, but matt flipped half of my large inn/church build.) Extra (Anything else you want to mention): I apologize for the pink/black blocks scattered all over my build :p they're all grass, but because of my resource pack (conquest) they don't register when I use forge. If needed I can re-submit without shaders, or submit more screenshots. I also understand if you feel the need to deny me for not finishing some of my builds :p Thank you for the consideration, velo

Well, then. This will be my second time writing this application. God I wish I had photographic memory In-Game Name: veloticy Age: 17 Location: Midwest US. House address and driving instructions can be provided upon request. Timezone: Eastern US (+5?) Join Date: Creative- 28/2/2015 SMP- 3/6/2015(?) Recommended by staff: tribalturtleI could easily spend hours talking about how much you guys need me as an Operator on your server. Truth is, you don't. I don't mean to ass-kiss or anything but Opticraft has one of the best Staff-Teams I've ever seen in my life. I would love the opportunity to work with you guys. Instead, I'll spend the entire time talking about how great I am. Let's face it; it's true I know, I'm pretty new to the server. I haven't been here as long as most of the others applying. Even though I may not be from Classic, and have only been here a good 2 months, I have something that I believe some of my peers lack. Dedication. Yes, dedication. To me, it is a very important characteristic when giving someone responsibility. "How is he dedicated?" In the 57 days, to be exact, that I've been a member of this Community, I have spent about 210 hours on the Creative server. I am dedicated to a lot of things on Opticraft. Becoming a better builder (If anybody would like to see any builds, just ask .) Friends- to me, this is the most important. I have made so many friends in the time I've been here. They're the reason I log onto Opticraft every day. They're what has made Opticraft so successful in the standards of a Community Server, and not one of the huge servers that don't have any regard for their players and voters, who keep the server alive. I can't guarantee that I'm the best-suited for the job, but I can, however, guarantee that I will try as hard as I can to become a good Operator. I would very much enjoy contributing to this community's well-being. Enjoyment. So many people these days get stressed out over responsibilities, and don't enjoy it. I have always handled responsibility well, and have also made the best and had fun with it. When you enjoy something, it just makes you care more about something, as well as take it seriously. I would enjoy my role as a staff member, helping others and making new friends, while still taking it seriously. I care about this server. A lot. Why else would I spend hours making this application? Why else would I be up at 3AM, typing this for a second time? Because I care. I've helped a lot of people out on this server, whether it's been the simple task of placing water or fire for a Guest, or helping friends through real-life problems. You all have welcomed me to the server, and invited me into the Opticraft family with open arms. I can't thank you all enough for that, for helping me through hard times. I feel I owe you all so much. I can personally guarantee that nobody else will care about their duties, and about each and every player, and about the server as a whole as much as I will. I would love the opportunity to have a bigger role in this community, and help make others feel as welcome as you all did to me. I would love to help people, in general. I love helping people; it makes me feel human. Nobody else applying cares as much as I do. I know that for a fact. Other players applying might be more decorated, more popular, and have all been here longer than I have. But. Nobody here cares as much as I do. Do you know how much I must care about you guys to spend 210 hours playing Minecraft? well, a lot. I love you guys, and the love you've shown me.

Hello. I was banned for griefing 122 blocks of someone's (I was not told the player's username) build. I am aware of the effect of being "griefed" has on someone, as even if a moderator is able to "roll-back" another's build, it still can upset the builder, because they wonder why someone would try to destroy their hard work.
On the weekend of February 28th, 2 weeks ago, I was approached by a moderator, triibalturtle, for a similar infraction. I explained to her that I had been afk for a while, and was certain my brother had done it. I later talked to him, and asked me to tell me what he destroyed and where I could fix it, as i wanted to make it up to the staff and players on the server. I apologized for what my brother had done, and promised to never stay afk on the server, figuring that would solve the problem. I am sure that if you go back to the grief and look at the dates on the logblock, it will be between those dates, Feb 28th/March 2nd, you will find that my story checks out.
I cannot express how badly I feel on how these series of Griefs occurred on my behalf due to my naive trust of my brother. I promise that if I am unbanned I will make sure that my brother never touches the server again, even if it involves me asking the mods to freeze me each time I go afk. If I am not unbanned, I would still like for someone to give the players I harmed my sincere apology, as even though I did not destroy their builds, I am still responsible for fostering the result.
I would also like to add that I have spent a large amount of time building on this server in the past two weeks (over 50,000 block changes), and have been working on a large project in which I would hate to see my investment go to waste. I have made several friends on this server whom I would like to keep, and become better friends with. I would like to inform the moderators as well as the players that I have NO intention of dismantling the infrastructure of this server, and will do everything I can to cooperate with staff.
Thank you for your consideration in my ban appeal,
Velo
