Offtopic / We're in the battle for the net
« on: September 11, 2014, 04:12:28 am »
https://www.battleforthenet.com/

"Net neutrality is the First Amendment of the Internet, the principle that Internet service providers (ISPs) treat all data equally. As an Internet user, net neutrality is vitally important to me. The FCC should use its Title II authority to protect it.
Most Americans have only one choice for truly high speed Internet: their local cable company. This is a political failure, and it is an embarrassment. America deserves competition and choice.
Without net neutrality, a bad situation gets even worse. These ISPs will now be able to manipulate our Internet experience by speeding up some services and slowing down others. That kills choice, diversity, and quality.
It also causes tremendous economic harm. If ISPs can speed up favored services and slow others, new businesses will no longer be able to rely on a level playing field. When ISPs can slow your site and destroy your business at will, how can any startup attract investors?
My friends, family, and I use the Internet for conversation and fun, but also for work and business. When you let ISPs mess with our Internet experience, you are attacking our social lives, our entertainment, and our economic well being. We won't stand for it.
ISPs are opposing Title II so that they can destroy the FCC's net neutrality rules in court. This is the same trick they pulled last time. Please, let's not be fooled again. Title II is the strong, legally sound way to enforce net neutrality. Use it."

TL;DR: Major cable companies are trying to slow down every website that doesn't pay them money.

Offtopic / Any python wizards?
« on: June 24, 2014, 04:08:46 am »
I'm trying to find out how I can have python detect what directory the python file is in, but I just can't.

My code (Not really mine but it's just for an example):
Code: [Select]
import os

dirname = "C:\\Users\Derek\Desktop\Bob"
bob = os.listdir(dirname)
print(bob)

Basically what I'm wanting is for python to find out dirname on it's own when I move the .py file to a new directory (for example, if I move the python file to "C:\\Users\Derek\Desktop\Bob\Test" then I want it to automatically detect that.)

I'm using Miscellaneous operating system interfaces.

Honestly, I've been quite lucky with this one, usually it doesn't spike back up, it usually sits at 0KB/s.

Over a year ago (After my last $100,000 giveaway) I promised I would give away $1 Million. I was waiting to get $2 Million before I did this but that's not going to happen any time soon.
I will be doing what I did with my $100,000 giveaway; I am going to give half to one person and half to another.

Oh I will, once I get $2,000,000 I will be giving away $1,000,000. But that will take me quite a while.

Offtopic / It's been a great 3 years on opticraft
« on: October 15, 2013, 03:02:35 am »
It's the middle of october, somewhere around the first time I connected to opticraft back in 2010. It's been a fun 3 years, I've met new great people, watched many people grow to the ranks they are and I've seen lots of people come and go. I honestly wouldn't have wanted to spend these 3 years with any other community than this one, you're all really great. Thank you all for being a part of this community, without you it wouldn't be where it is now.

It brings the price of $10 down to $4.40.

General Discussion / Come on, vote guys!
« on: July 01, 2013, 04:44:56 am »
These are the statistics of the number of votes we've recieved in the past 30 days.

This is very very very low compared to the number of votes shown here. Come on guys! If most of you decided, "Hey, I'll take 2 minutes out of my day to fill out the capcha's and vote on the actual voting site instead of taking advantage of the system," then we would have a lot more new guests and members joining, sure we are still getting people joining the server but if we can vote to get us to the very top again, maybe we can get loads of new guests and possibly hit the 100+ members online instead of getting these 30-50 people on per day. We can easily achieve 50 votes per day if most of us start voting and voting on the real site. To achieve this, you can remind other people to vote on the actual voting site every day, so we have less people forgetting and so we can get more votes in.

Trade Central / Large area for sale
« on: January 13, 2013, 12:57:30 am »
Edit: Just taking down the wall to use the stone for something else so I don't lose $200k+ from this.

If you would still like to buy it, flag me down in game, and I'll give the stone that I took down to you and the remains of the wall. for $300k

I'm selling a stone wall and a desert replaced with grass. Reason for selling: I don't want to take down the stone wall, and plus, someone could use the area for something, like we were.

If people build inside the walls, they are griefing me (or whoever buys it) me and famous customized most the land.

Here is an image of the land:
http://smp.opticraft.net/map/#/-864/64/604/-2/2/0

Buy price: $300k

Disclaimer: If someone builds on the land, it can't be undone from the get go, you must ask them to move it first and ask politely (/mail or if they're on /msg), don't place signs everywhere. Also, there are no protection stones protecting it right now, and there are none included.

Rejected / City Application - Vertumous
« on: October 10, 2012, 02:46:23 am »
Please disregard this application until I add more to the place -- a wall is not enough. I will notify.

City name: Vertumous

City location (coordinates, not biome, include world name): X: -850   Z: 560 (centered)

Contributors: TheRealFamous, Awesomealicia helped clear a little dirt, TylerHan2000 helped clear the jungle tree's, Techdude Donated $20k for stone. TheWholeLoaf gave us the land :P

Mayor (Only one - this is the zone owner): Mr_Mr_Mr

Approximate dimensions: 372x445

Number of active residents: 1

Number of completed, decorated and furnished buildings: The wall, there will be more to come. Here is the city on the live map: http://smp.opticraft.net/map/#/-981/64/722/-4/1/0

What state is the project in, and what are your plans for its future, if any: Beginning, we just got the wall completed, finally. We're going to start working on the entrance and the docks for the boats. After that we're going to work from the center of the city out.

Why should we grant this city protection?: I would appreciate protection so nobody builds on the land. We can't do anything about it if they do because it's not protected. Also, this isn't going to be like most cities where there are residents that make houses there to live, this is going to be a custom themed city with detailed builds, so it's not going to look bad.

Here is what I want protected:
