another thing, what permission do i need to use a bucket?

You have to be trusted to use water buckets.  Only Ops and admins can place lava.  Ops and admins can place water for you as well.  You can also ask a trusted member (orange names) if they can help you out with placing water.

General Discussion / Re: Why Cant We Make Cobbblestone Generators
« on: November 14, 2011, 07:39:26 pm »
I made the legit generator that dedly is talking about.  There was a small lava pit near my village, coincidentally where I wanted to build a factory as part of my village setting.  I decided to make the cobble generator not because it was efficient, but because I wanted some working machinery in the factory.  It's really only for show.

It's FAR more efficient to collect cobble by digging it out of the ground.  My generator doesn't lose any cobble to lava (it uses 3 pistons to 'snake' the cobble around to a point where it can be busted one at a time) but the speed isn't very fast.  You have to time the pistons to allow the cobble to be created.  This delay is slower than just moving from block to block in a mine.

If you insist that a cobble generator is somehow easier or faster than just digging it up, you're welcome to try out the Cobblegen 3000™ and see for yourself.

Yeah, that took awhile.  Between the two horns alone there are about 120 obsidian.  Add in the nostrils, the eyebrows, and the wall on the inside and it's at least 2.5 stacks.

The other night while I was poking around in the nether for some glowstone it hit me - my village didn't have a pub!  So I decided to build one - The Waking Dragon:

A shot of the bar:

The VIP area:

And the dance floor:

And of course the party deck overlooking the bay:

I'm not terribly concerned about rewards, I just want to support the SMP server to help make sure it's successful  :)

General Discussion / Donations for SMP
« on: November 08, 2011, 11:12:50 pm »
I've spent a lot of time on the SMP server, so I think it's only fair that I make a donation.  The donations page makes it clear that donations are for classic, though.  I don't really have any desire to play on the classic server, so I'd like to make sure my donation goes to support the SMP server.  Should I just make a donation and not worry about it?  Or will there soon be a defined way to donate for the SMP server?

Yeah, since I'm the only one who worked on my village, I could control where things were built and how.  Regarding help, I got a few melon seeds and 2 sugar cane from the farms in Doom's village.  Doom also dug the tunnel between our villages, and we both laid the tracks.  Everything in the village itself was built by my hand.

I originally started the village just to have a nice view from the tower of the castle (and my house at the top), and it kind of got out of control.  :)

I've been working on one large project for the last several weeks.  It's still ongoing but I thought I'd post what I have now.  It's a castle with a village outside the walls.  There's too much to really capture in images, so I made a short video walkthrough of the docks and the village:

I've built everything in this video except for the No Griefing sign, which my girlfriend made  ;)
