General Discussion / Community input wanted!
« on: June 24, 2012, 01:18:24 am »
So, I've been brainstorming fun ways to contribute to and interact with the community, and I've come up with two projects that I want to begin working on if there's enough interest. I'd like to host weekly drop parties. I want to set up small public tutorial farms, since people often ask how to make money. But before I start building, I'd like to find out what other players think and whether these projects would generate enough demand for me to want to commit to them. I also don't want to devote time to something people will be against me doing. It seem obvious that most people would be in favor of these things, but I can also see arguments against them.

Now, both projects are centered on pumpkins, and I've heard some talk about possibly removing or restricting the ability to sell pumpkins at the market. This could potentially destroy my intended purpose behind each project, and I wouldn't want to put in time and effort into something that will be useless in a week a so. Can anyone confirm or deny plans to remove pumpkins from the market?

1. Weekly drop parties
Rather than simply throwing items out of my inventory into a crowd of people, I would use a lot of dispensers and sticky pistons to distribute items throughout the biome I live in. Since items would disperse over a large area of land, it would make it so people aren't just standing in one area pushing each other and would ideally have more opportunities to obtain items.

What would I drop?
Well, since money can't be dropped, I want to drop lots of pumpkins for players to sell at the market. Other items would also be meshed in with the pumpkins to be dropped. I'm not sure what yet. Whatever I might drop would largely depend on what items people seem to like, but I would probably also drop things like diamonds, iron, etc.

How much would I drop?
This one I'm not sure on. It would depend on how many people plan on attending, but I've been thinking that I would probably want to do around $50k in items weekly. Ideally, I'd like for everyone who comes to be able to leave with something.

When would I do this?
I could probably have things set up to go in a week or so, and I would probably want to do them Sundays at around 8PM CST.

2. Farming tutorials
Drop parties would be held throughout my tutorial area, as a way to hopefully bring attention to them. I get a lot of questions about my farm, so there clearly seems to be quite a bit of interest in my layout. Rather than creating a tutorial on how to make a farm identical to mine, I prefer to make a tutorial area where people can learn redstone and piston basics, tips, tricks, etc. This would hopefully promote creativity over duplication. That being said, people will be able to see my farm sometime in the near future. Right now, I'm focusing on getting money together to fund these and other projects of mine, and I don't really want to spend time showing people around my farm and explaining how it works.

So, what do you all think? Interested? Opposed? Either way, let me know below!
