Title: Boosting computer performance?
Post by: liquidcool24 on May 18, 2011, 04:27:32 pm
So like a week ago I made a youtube and was gonna post a video when I see that It's gonna take 600min.(For the noobs who can't do math, that 10 hours) Is there someway I can boost upload speed long enough to get the video posted?

Note:My computer runs windows XP.

Best bet would be to compress/encode the video so it is smaller.

Either you have one huge ass video of you have one slow ass internet connection lol. Like optical said, make the video smaller, or you can upgrade your internet. Software cannot increase your upload speed in most cases.

To speed up the computer: use windows readyboost (I tripled my RAM)
To speed up your Internet: move house closer to your exchange or see if a company offer a better speed.
To speed up the upload: compress the file (this may reduce the quality.

Software can't increase your Internet speed. Most consumers get a faster Down Stream (Download) and a slower Up Stream (Upload). The only way to make It faster is to request for a faster upload connection. You may pay more than what you pay for right now.

Yeah, my router connection has to go through two feet of concrete before its gets out of the house. The video is about 1.3GB. If I compressed it any smaller, it would look crappy.

1.3 GB ? You really need to compress that video file. Yes, it will look crappy, but at least It doesn't go over a GB. While YouTube already does the compression during the "Processing" phase, I still recommend compressing it. That way, It will be uploaded faster and process faster.

What I said on my post. Go talk to your ISP if you can get a Upload Speed increase. However, your Internet bills may be added on.

My 6 minute COD video was around 500 MB, and that was at 720p. So you really need to do some compressing.

1.3gb and 7 minutes? Sounds near raw to me. Probably best to search for some guides online for compressing it and reducing its resolution.

You can buy RAM here: http://www.crucial.com
1. Click on System Scanner.
2. Run the System Scanner.
3. Click on View Quick Configuration.
4. Select the ram you would like to purchase. (it will know if you can add more, make sure you know you can add more before purchasing!)
5. Order the RAM. This will take 5-9 days. (maybe, I ordered mine today because another company didn't send me my other one... it's taken 3 months)
6. Install it and it will be ready to go! (make sure you know what you're doing.)

Ram has nothing to do with the slow upload speed.... Its his internet connection and the file size.

But i'm glad you got it to work.

Ooooooh... Then he needs a better router then, or better connection. I thought he meant the way it runs.

Sound lag has to do with either the video recording itself, or somewhere along the lines when you were editing the video (if you edited the video) you made a mistake.

this probably wont help that much but you should run a ccleaner scan. it removes all the trash from your computer
