Title: Opticraft on Youtube?
Post by: Wyboth on June 19, 2012, 07:59:12 pm
I had an idea today. Opticraft should get together and make a really kick-@$$ video showing off everything on our server and put it on Youtube. I know there are a few out there now, but they only show the tip of the iceberg of our builds and have 1,000 views, tops. We should all pitch in and make a really good video that will get loads of views on Youtube. Think about the wonders that would do to our member count. Perhaps some of the members attracted by the video could one day be good enough to become ops. Anyways, just a thought I was throwing out there.

Update: Nick3306 has just informed me that he talked to Optical about this a little over a week ago. They don't know if they're going to do it officially yet.

It sounds like a good idea :D
Do you know if it will showcase smp, classic or both?

Not to ruin this (because I support it) but this will bring members, but also griefers. But we're gonna assume more members than griefers.

Originally I was planning only on Classic (because that's all that i play) but it will probably be both.

This is true for whenever any server gets more players. Our ops and AntiGrief can handle the griefers, as they always do.

classic only imo if smp wants to make one don't go for it but a mix would be silly and i extremely dislike smp so i guess i have a bias

We have talked about this, but it has to be done in such a way that it paints a good picture of opticraft.

And yes, it would be both classic and smp.

i think there should be 2 different videos because ive heard many times they're two different servers. I didn't mean to say "don't go for it " i meant to say "go for it" on my earlier post

I think a video highlighting the new members world would be neat. Only thing is we can't fly, so it really has to be the ops working on this if anything as flying always provides the best angles.

It seems like you guys have taken this over, but don't forget about me. Once I get back from vacation, I'll get back to this. Oh and btw, I have FRAPS.

Opticraft now has an official youtube. However, I am going to be extremely strict with what videos go on it.

Nick do you have a channel link or its youtube name? Thanks

I understand, Nick. One of my ideas for a video would be to show builds in the showcase worlds, while another would be to show off builds of less talented players, such as members and recruits. (I'm only talking about classic here.) We could also have an informational video describing the ranks and rules.

Uhh, I have Camtasia, which I assume is better than Fraps.
And I enjoy editing videos, so I'm here to help.
I can record in both SMP (using my friend's account) and Classic.

Just saying, if you want me to help with SMP, you're gonna have to be very specific, 'cause I have no idea what SMP is about or what interests people into it.

Sounds good, Nick. I think this will be a good place for the christmas video a few of us are making. When I get round to actually recording the final scene, I might need a fairly large crowd to jump around in the snow :p

Camtasia is not just recording software unlilke Fraps but from my experience camtasia dropped the framerate loads more than Fraps. I personally like Fraps more, it uses far less resources.

This is a good idea, I think that the first classic video should be the showcases worlds.

So... Would each video have like a special event or something? Or is it something else?

I am not going to give it out since the channel is empty right now. There is still a few things I need to do before posting the first video which will be a promo video for smp.

Will staff members be able to access the account, or is it just going to be Admins+ that can do anything with it?

I think Fraps is better for recording purposes, but I do NOT have Sony Vegas, so I will send the footage to you for editing.

Pfft Sony Vegas, dam pc users.

Amatures, I use my mac all the way when editing. Final Cut Pro X or Final Cut Pro 7 come to the true way of editing films ;)

Speaking of YouTube, I did make a video about the hardships of moderation and administration. I have it uploaded to YouTube, but I'm not completely finished with it yet. Hoping to add pictures and maybe some clips to it at some point. Also, it's not public as of yet.

Im sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean for my video to be on the official Opticraft youtube channel, I just made the video for fun and wanted to share it.

Not to ruin this (because I support it) but this will bring members, but also griefers. But we're gonna assume more members than griefers.
I know someone probbably already said something about this but anyways i think this is a great idea because the greifers would evenally get banned i support this idea alot.
