It's pretty scary if you ask me.
I hope this really doesn't go through.
It might actually start a civil world war.
The point is: All user sharing sites won't work the same at all. Not even user content, like videos , pictures etc... But ideas you might have, could get you in trouble if you share them on the internet. it's really.... i don't even have words.

Fortunately, websites such as wikipedia and google are totally against SOPA, and are planning "blackouts" as support for anti-SOPA. So is reddit-- it seems everday now redditors are targeting bill supporter-congressman and practically forcing them to withdraw their support in SOPA.

I dont think it will pass. There are too many protesters (Im one. :D) and they will start a riot. This law will put the world in chaos, run people out of business, and be incredibly inconvenient. DeviantART (art website I always use), youtube, facebook, all my manga reading sites, they'll be destroyed. And people will go nuts.

If this bill passes I will lose all hope for the United States (from what little hope I have left..). This bill would truly change the face of North America, and eventually the entire world as countries would try to imitate.

Exactly, I am not in the U.S. either (even though I'm still U.S. Territory) But the whole world would be affected, since most of the big web pages and stuff around the world house their servers in the U.S.
I guess this is why the world will end in 2012.
Nah, joking aside I am terrified, and even though I'm sure we can overcome this bill, It still gives me chills (that line was not taken from Dr. Seuss)

Most of the older senators have know clue what sopa is really about... They hear" It blocks pornography" and there all for it. Most of them that do this don't even use the internet.
The scariest part is If it does get passed it will shutdown not only block pornography, but also block any sight against the government. It will affect sights like: Youtube, reddit, 4chan, Wikipedia, Google, Bing, and many others.

We live in times of technological revolution. This revolution brings also laws, bills, restrictions. We will live with it, when it will happen.

There is very little chance it will pass due to that fact that most corporations are against it. Now that the supreme court ruled corporations are people and can give unlimited money to campaigns, they are the ones pulling the strings.
Also, president obama will veto the bill, that means the senate would need a 67 yes votes to pass it.

Yeah I highly doubt it'll pass. However, that doesn't mean that they will give up. I think this is just round one. Next year they'll come back with it with more reasoning behind it and a better plan. We need to make sure that this shit is gone for good.

It appears to be a move to allow the government further control of the economy. Or at least thats the way it appears to me.

From what i read in the article that this "S.O.P.A" would shut down sites like youtube, facebook, google, wikipedia, or bing. Thats idiotic, the internet would be nothing without google or bing, what other search engine is there? Youtube, there is no other site that big for video hosting, it is know around the world, congress cant just shut this down, and about 99.9999% of youtube is not piracy, and S.O.P.A is agianst piracy,and also not much piracy is on facebook. Does that mean you have to shut it down? NO!

Lucho, dont take everything that article says as something that is going to happen, that article assumes a lot of things. We really don't know exactly what will happen if this bill passes, all we know is that it looks like a recipe for disaster.

As I've seen someone else state, we still need to be active against PIPA, which is still in play. This is likely an example of a common technique to get it to pass. SOPA was created to be ridiculous and hated, and now PIPA will look less ridiculous/more reasonable in comparison and more likely to pass.

The English Wikipedia was shut down today along with the minecraft website. Google placed a censor black box over their logo. They say Google will do a black out too but I'm still not sure when. Remember to sign the petition that Google has for us!

Wikipedia didnt shut its site down, they just made everything redirect to a diff page. So if you stop the browser from loading before it redirects, you can use wikipedia.

You can also disable javascript in your browser, and use wikipedia normally.
As for the bill, it smacks of Prohibition here in the U.S. It seemed like a good idea (alchohol is bad, etc.), but proved ineffective and difficult to enforce. Even if by some chance SOPA does pass, it will probably be repealed just like Prohibition was. Stuff on the internet is pretty much impossible to block out or censor.

It's offtopic, does it need to make sense? :D Anyway, this entire sopa-pipa story could get a 'twisting tail' in the end. The government with 'a thousand eyes' watching your every move. 'Trapped forever' in an unknowing society, with only information the government wants you to know. 'Time is short.' If we don't act, this bill will pass.

I guess the bill doesn't have to pass to start messing up with the internet.

Before people start crying foul, read (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/20/technology/indictment-charges-megaupload-site-with-piracy.html) up on it first. This is the one good thing SOPA would do, it would shut down sites that are used largely for piracy.

I agree with the stop piracy thing, but they also use that to mask their other intentions.
I just think it's weird... the bill has not been signed yet, and they seem to have started raiding.
