Im pretty sure notch has ditched minecraft classic and released the source code for it, hence WoM client and the ability to change your server with add-ons.

According to the wiki:
It is no longer updated and only kept for historical purposes. According to Notch, he plans on "...slowly phasing it out. I won't remove it, though. Just hide it."

Its likely to be replaced with the new Beta creative mode. When - who knows, but i think its inevitable

What do you mean "the new Beta creative mode"? Is this gonna be something like half classic half beta  ???

Its coming in the next update. By the sounds of it, it will be a mode for beta in which you have infinite blocks + instant destruction of blocks.
