Title: My Not So New Project - Tall, Biomechanical, Photo-enhanced, Building
Post by: tbpb2010 on April 06, 2011, 08:25:28 pm
This is a very crude 5 min sketch (in MS paint obviously) of a project i've been working on.
(https://www.opticraft.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1140.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn567%2Ftbpb2010%2FTBPB.png&hash=80d4329a60b7fdf725e9361b584a1788)

The idea behind this revolutionary building is that it's a tree capable of generating vast amounts of ener.....ah screw it.  i just felt like making this for no real reason other than that I like it! :P
I've already started clearing out the area where I want to build it.  (I've actually been working on this for a few months) It's in the builder past the miniture SoL next to the Villa Rotunda.  I'm currently working on the trunk and intake tubes.

This is my current status: 4-29-11
(https://www.opticraft.net/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1140.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fn567%2Ftbpb2010%2Fscreenshot_20110429193238.png&hash=421b8e52828d8fa88564d922be5bab1f)

Anybody is welcome to help but I'm not sure how I'm gonna do the insides of the building.... I will probably dedicate rooms to various members if yall ask so feel free to do so!

So far I've had help from:
Apij, Spikey, Ram, Quad, Greenest, Liquid!
Thnx 4 all the help guys (if I'm 4getting anyone plz let me know!)

k thnx 4 the support.  Oh and Flight, if u see this I want u to know that u built partially over the space im on using for this project. I've already put so much time and effort clearing out the area underneath. I'm aware that you probably didnt know but I was really hoping if you could move your project (sharks or flying fish?) or that I could build around your project.

Not to be rude, but why is it on Notre Dame? I needed that space to /copy and /paste the buttresses for the exterior on Side B on the cathedral. I didn't realize you were building a tree in Notre Dame...

Srry i was trying to secretly do it at first and i only announced it recently (which was stupid on my part considering others may build on it like you did).  I figured since no one was working in Notre Dame at the time I started on it (which was a month ago) and it was the only world that had enough space for what i wanted to do.  If you still need the space I'll stop my project and work elsewhere.

at the moment i am postponing this project due to the zoning in Notre Dame and because I needed to take a break from this (I've been working on it for a long time befor I posted this)

I suggest you become a crafter, 128x128 of free space.  ;)

He has to have a very good standard to make the grade for crafter.

@Monkey
Well I'm sorta building this so I can attempt to become crafter...so yeah.  I found an area in builder4 that I can do it in.  It may slight cover your ridiculously huge car pic/sprite Monkeh so just let me know if I'm building too close.

@Rallag7
Yeah I know that's why I'm trying to do an over the top project that's large in size.  I'm also doing a cathedral thats so big, I'm gonna wait till a new world shows up where I can ask for it to be moved to.

Don't worry about the car, it is better viewed from the back anyway. If you are really desperate for space, you can even fill the gap to the car.

@Monkey
K well I've made my project much smaller than originally planned anyways.  It doesnt need to be as big as I thought it should be.

Also does anyone have have tips on filling large areas with water/lava?   ???
I personally perfer the replace/paint method by filling the area with solid and painting lava/water in its place.  ;D

Right now, I'm trying to make a "zigzagged sort of leaf brush" around the top of the tree.  At first, I wanted to keep it solid and have it simply wrap around the tree.  Right now it's looking kinda of bad so I may end up cutting into some of the solid area to make the leaf brush look more leafy.

If anyone have some innovative ideas on how to make the leafy area on top look better let me know. Hopefully my little explanation made some sense to some folks.  :D

Umm you're using this towards your crafter app?

Dang it! I hate it when ur right!  :P.....Although technically I've only had help with clearing out the space for my building to be.  No one has actually help me build the building itself.  But If I must have ABSOLUTELY NO HELP AT ALL IN ANY WAY I'll use some different projects for my crafter app.

Well, if I were to judge in crafterapps, I wouldn't care at all how many people helped you, as long as it is your design. I mean, why would you need to fill up 5 layers of lava all by yourself? It's still just a pool of lava :/ It's the details that make it epic, and you will need to add those yourself anyway.

@MrMonkey
I like your philosophy on the subject but in a sense the crafter app kinda has the same logic ppl had behind cuboiding powers.  In the end it seems manual labor is prefered over design quality (not saying both arent important, one just more than the other)

@CheesyMan
Thnx :D

K I think what I have now is looking pretty nice!  Now I gotta fill in the leaves, widen the trunk and extend it, add some branches, work on the interior then I'm done!  If anyone have any tips or feedback feel free to compliment or criticize my work.  This is probably my first "serious" project I've done on this server and I wanna know what ppl think.

I agree with this somewhat. But if you think about iut i could sit here and desgin great buildings but if i dont actually build them, its really useless.

I think you need to find the perfect middle of the 2. I agree with what tbpb is saying that i would rather sacrifice a little on the detail and build it block for block than make it a little better and use commands like cuboid to finish it (not saying that there is anything wrong with that). It is an interesting topic, i would love to see what the admins have to say about it.

A tip on more random looking leaves, make it random :P Just have some leaves sticking out instead of the same thing all round, like you did in the drawing. But even now, it does look good :P Maybe it's even better to have it 'bad' looking on the dark side, to give a more mechanical ambience to it.

@Nick3306
Thnx for the input! I'm sure there's a topic somewhere on the forums about this....if not, guess I'll have to start one! :p

@Monkey
Thnx Monkey, I was intending to add the "randomness" factor to it but decided to stick with the same leaf all around because at the time it was too hard to add randomness without it looking too strange.  I might do it now because I have some order to it and it'd be much easier for me.  I was also think of that too about having it look "bad" on the mecha side.  But I'm not sure how to go about it....any specific ideas?

At the moment I'm about 78-80% done with the "tree".  I still have the trunk, branches and insides to do which should take no more than a few days to finish.  Right now I'm slowing my work on the tree (partly because I'm tired of constantly working on it)  so I can start working on other projects I hope that will get me closer to becoming crafter.

Well I'm reviving this old project!  I know its been like 4 months since I've done anything here lol but I really want to finish this one. Even though the worlds have been changed around since I was gone, I found this on builder4 so I'll probably be updating this again sometime this weekend.
