As you can see, the texture pack system is out of the window to bring in a new system called "Resource Packs" to prepare for the new Modding API.
I honestly think it's a huge screwover for texture pack creators. Even thought it can be converted it appears this is gonna be a tad annoying.

So resource packs are mods, textures, and everything else all in one?
Seems good and bad

Yay, new mod API, another reason dejected will have to not update optihelp.

So…… Is this the start of their fall? Or is this the start of their bumpy ride?

Sure, previous mods will be kinda broken, but in a couple of months you'll start to see some new amazing mods being released because of this change. It sounds interesting and will give mod makers some more flexibility.
