Title: a way to compare you against active others.
Post by: RuthlessTomato on January 29, 2013, 10:11:46 pm
So, this plugin or forum thing simply displays how much of a veteran. It tells you how many people who joined the forums before you have come on in the last month. This could be useful for mod apps, and to see just how old you are. I know its POSSIBLE, but is it plausible?

Veteran... huh...

How about take out the word veteran, and put "See when this player joined the server." In my opinion, when you actually joined the opticraft community is when you've registered on the forums so best way to find out when a player joined the community is the forums, just view their profile. (You also have to have been a part of the community for a long time to get trusted, and it helps when it comes to getting the moderator rank.)

This just seems like bragging rights.

"I've been around for ten months! I'm cool!"

"Noob! I've been around for a year! That makes me better!"

"Both of you are noobs! I've been around for a year and a half! That makes me the best!"

You get the point.

It's not a bad thing, it's kind of nice to see when people have joined the server, it helps with promotions to trusted and moderator like you said, just take out all the things with 'veteran' in there and use 'shows your join date' instead.

Also guys, what's so bad about saying when you joined the server, whether it was several months ago or less than a month ago?

...No, not to compare your join date to others. 'Plugin that displays join date' would help a lot more. The reason why veteran ranks were rejected is because they were only for bragging rights, and that title is radiating bragging rights.

Did i not say this right? Lol.
I mean like you type a command and you see how many people who have joined before you have come on.

Doesn't help much with mod apps tho. If the players isn't mature enough to tell when they joined and how old they are without lying, chances are they won't get it. And the trusted rank can't be solely placed on this either. Doesn't really matter how long they've been here, really just their maturity level. Does help to be sure they know how things work around the server tho.

What if they don't remember?

Definitely Need a command to tell you in-game when you joined in-game and on the forums.
If you want to see who's been on the server longer you need to compared that for yourself, a command for that alone
isn't needed or practical.

This sounds like my /stats suggestion, deject3d said since they never started tracking join dates ect it would only be accurate for players who join after it is put into effect. I however dont see what is too hard about clicking a persons username on the forums to see when they became a member.

Most people remember the general time they joined, like the month it was. But yes having it ingame would help. Perhaps tagged on F4 somewhere.
