I'm thinking of building a large mob grinder like this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdKBeInv_2s) one. I realize that this requires 2 lava source blocks. I'm wondering if a mod would be allowed to place these, if I would have to modify existing lava, or if it's allowed at all. I'd rather not go through all of the work to find out that it's not allowed, so I'm posting this first.

for th eentire server?

Uh, no, just for me. But, I may sell/give away the drops.

Do /helpop lava in game, as long as it doesn't appear to be dodgy, they should place it for you.

You do realize that this kind of mob-spawning activity is a sort of 'in-your-dreams' type of thing on this server...
-
Are you aware that this was made in Alpha 1.1? It may not be trustworthy anymore.

I know it won't get the kind of spawning that was in the video. I don't expect it to.

According to Minecraft Wiki (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Tutorials/Mob_Farm), it still works as of 1.3. I don't think any updates in 1.4 will make it not function.

i made one like that one , but smaller , taller : http://smp.opticraft.net/map/#/5211/64/4241/-1/0/0
It works pretty well if you make some buildings like that

I'm thinking of building this one in my 128 x 128 city, so size isn't really a problem. I'll probably build a melon farm in the same building.
Side note: I changed my avatar!

I suggest that if you do build a mob trap, you should use one of Etho's designs. I strongly believe that they are the most efficient designs.
The one ivy built is a modified version of Etho's designs. It has over 4000 blocks capable of hostile mob spawning, all in an area less than 30x30x128.
