I remember when I suggested this. I think it's about time we adopt it.

I was on vacation this passed week with a friend and we were in a shop somewhere and happened to pass by a hat stand. As you can see, I couldn't resist to try one on.

Shopping at HipstersRUs I see.

If I go, I'll just see a bunch of newbies still.
Would I be compared to a newbie? :(
Let me ask you this.
Have you once stepped on the rich soil of classic?
Of course. He was a former Operator :P

As always, I watch these applications silently and rarely comment on them.

I'm no longer as active as I used to be but the few times I pop on IRC, Zelda is sitting on there watching or commenting. She's one of the most active members of the community from my impressions. She certainly puts in a lot of effort to help out and be active. It might not be my place due to my disappearances to say she would be a good mod. However, there is no doubt in my mind that this young lady is maturing. I personally believe she should be given a chance to tackle the challenges of mod. But again, it's not my place.

Nevertheless, I wish you the best of luck, old friend.

I applause you, sir,  for coming up with such an excellent roleplay. You made a great classic even better with the storytelling.
Thank you mate. :D

I tried to do my best from just pictures. I guess I made these pictures worth a thousand words lol.

You do know I'm not saying Opticraft should die right?

I was just saying "if it has to die, let it die with dignity...let it die with the same ideas that make Opticraft what it is". Some suggestions are just too incompatible with what opticraft has always been about. I don't see our community mixing well with a factions/minigames server. It's just not what we are.

We're a building community and we are a social community. We aren't so much a pvp community because I don't honestly believe many people participate in Opticraft's pvp system. We aren't much of a survival community either because we're all sporting diamond armor and god tools running massive farms with our /home commands. At the core, we've always been either builders or just social people for the most part (even if a lot of us don't actually build/talk a lot).

PVP/Factions will lead to hostile relationships which may or may not alter the friendly, social aspect of Opticraft that we all love so much. Even in a seperate world, it will bring in a lot of complaints and negativity (despite it all being fair/in the rules). Maybe I just don't see it working for Opticraft yet but I personally don't think it fits us.

I don't want us to die. I never did. I know it might come some day but I'm not willing to actually accept it until Opti says "I'm shutting down the server guys". Opticraft might not be around forever but its got an amazing community and it can definitely last long because of it. I don't approve of this post saying we should all just migrate elsewhere like a flock of geese flying south for winter. We can still improve. There's always room for improvement no matter how dire the situation. We just need to think realistically and in regard to the Opticraft "personality". Some suggestions just don't make sense for us to adopt.

TL;DR- I probably didn't make myself clear enough but I'm not accepting the death of opticraft yet. I just don't want it to turn to shit with a bunch of the suggested plugins.

Trip Finale!

After burying their fallen comrade, the group forces Claw to take a few days of rest to mourn him before continuing onwards.

(click to show/hide)

The group reaches its final divide. Having spent every last dollar he had back in Independence on supplies and beer, Claw is forced to make the decision to float down the Columbia River. He caulks the wagon and tells everyone to brace themselves...

(click to show/hide)

The river rapids are too strong and the wagon is barely handling it....Salsa begins berating Claw for not saving a few dollars for the toll road...The two get in a large argument and eventually fists start flying...Wone desperately tries to stop this pointless violence but is kicked to the back of the wagon...Claw slips and falls overboard, clinging onto the wagon with his life and a look of fear....The wagon is now tilted as supplies begin falling off...Salsa, although mad at Claw, reaches his hand out to pull him up and save him....Claw grabs Salsa's hand and pulls him into the water....he then proceeds to pull himself up into the wagon...A panting Claw, Wone and Kag barely glimpse Salsa's last struggle for life as the river claims him as its own...

(click to show/hide)

Claw immediately jumps up and starts to steer the wagon/raft again, narrowly missing a rock as some more supplies fall over...

(click to show/hide)

Eventually, the river finally calms as Claw and Wone pull the wagon to shore...."We've made it!", Claw exclaims. Kag and Wone start to distance themselves from Claw as they decide to walk behind the slow moving wagon (despite their conditions). As they walk by other settlers, the group marvels at their soon-to-be new home, full of beauty and possibility. They have survived the Oregon Trail and now they are home.

Congratulations winners! I will now begin taking names for the next trip if anyone is interested.

The next trip will begin whenever I find time to do it. Maybe a few days. Maybe a week. But thanks for participating and thanks for the awesome roleplay. It was definitely a fun experience. Hope you all enjoyed!

We reach yet another fork in the path. Claw decided to head to The Dalles.

(click to show/hide)

IGen's battle with cholera and Kag's singing have made him restless. Not sleeping well for several days, IGen begins to experience symptoms of exhaustion.

(click to show/hide)

Claw stops the wagon and says they are gonna rest for a few days. He advises IGen to sleep well and rest up. The group tries to wake him on the second morning of rest but IGen has already long left them.

Who else will die? Have Claw and Salsa finally settled their differences? Will we ever see the end of this godforsaken trail from hell? Stay tuned and find out on the trip finale coming at 12 PM CST on 4/11/14!

After several months of hard, strenuous travel, our injured ox dies.

(click to show/hide)

Looks like we're gonna need TWO buckets...

(click to show/hide)

On the same day Kag contracts his disease, one of the oxen collapses and brings the wagon to a halt. Upon inspection, its found to have broken one of its legs. It stands up on its own though, determined to continue on the journey. Claw begins to  grow weary of their luck.

Other travelers back at Fort Bridger warned them of thieves on the trail between Fort Bridger and Soda Springs. As the group had stopped to rest for the night, Claw the leader, volunteered to keep watch, much to the protests of Salsa. After clubbing Salsa on the head, he ordered the rest of them to go to sleep. After finding a small puddle, Claw was too busy admiring his likeness to notice a middle-aged man sneak past him, rummage through their wagon and run off with 9 sets of clothes...

(click to show/hide)

Claw realizes he was holding the map upside down again....

(click to show/hide)

Salsa tells Claw they're running low on food so Claw goes out hunting...

(click to show/hide)

After shooting 2 deers and a bear, they realized they could only carry back the bear meat. The group is forced to leave the other carcasses behind.

(click to show/hide)

The group reaches another river crossing.

(click to show/hide)

Claw doesn't think the wagon will be able to float across on its own so he enlists the help of a local Shoshani guide at the price of 2 sets of clothing.

(click to show/hide)

Success!

(click to show/hide)

Wone got caught in Claw and Salsa's catfight and was pushed off the moving wagon. After realizing what they've done, they went back for him and found him with a broken leg.

Can y'all just let Opticraft die with some dignity?

I'd rather see it die as a vanilla SMP server with an awesome community than see it heavily modded just to suit the needs of a gaming community with the attention span of a squirrel.

We can't keep opticraft forever and we certainly can't make it like those other servers you guys play. I already know that pvp and factions worlds will probably never be approved. That's never what we were about.

We're a building community. We really are. We began with a simple, yet successful Classic Minecraft server, filled with glorious builds and designs. Our eager community members would log on each day, inspired to build something amazing. We grew into an SMP server eventually as well and while the focus was placed on survival, people managed to still impress us with magnificent feats of work on SMP.

Considering Classic is officially dead and Opticraft no longer recognizes it as a part of the Opticraft experience (hence the archiving of the classic forums), I think our best idea would be to have either a creative server or at the very least an event server. We need a place to express ourselves freely through building like the classic server used to do.

Considering there is little to no survival on opticraft anyways with all its plugins, people are just getting bored. We can keep trying to earn money but there really isn't much of an incentive to bother. The voting rewards of diamonds aren't really useful unless you're trying to amass a collection, are pvping (not many are) or are making a bunch of tools every day (which you shouldn't need to unless you're making backup tools or selling em for some small amount of profit).

Perhaps for our survival server it might be best to separate inventories/money to each world so people can actually work to acquire things instead of already having it by switching back to their massive vault rooms of stuff in their home world.

Hardcore survival could also work.

But remember to not change the server too much. We're a friendly server. We're a great community that comes together to make this server more interesting. And we definitely all love to build. Adding an unfriendly mechanic such as war, factions, and hunger games might take away from our positive personality.

We will morph into an environment of hostility which may be OK just for the sake of the game but that's not what the opticraft I've been with for the past 2.5 years is all about.
