Since i've had a few question about getting it, i have opted to create a topic letting everyone know you can actually download the software in both binary and source forms. I do not make official releases very often, and 0.0.2 will be my last until i've sorted out the playerDB update.
Anyhow, it can be downloaded from https://sourceforge.net/projects/opticraft/. If you need help setting it up, let me know.
If there are any crashes or bugs, please let me know!

make a server leech? What? You can run your own server using the software, if thats what you're asking.

I don't know what to write when I run Opticraft. It is unable to find rules in rules.txt
It shows my only my url and that it has been saved in url.txt

make a file called rules.txt and put your rules in it :|.
Open the url in url.txt to connect to your server :|

When I try to connect to my server it says me that it's probably down

You have to let Opticraft.exe open, ALWAYS

Listen up. If your server won't run, and you have a router, you need to port-forward. Look it up of you don't know how.

how do i change rank colors, add ranks, etc.? When I open Ranks, it just shows all of the people that have ranks. This is when the server is running and also when it is not.

any map with dimensions that are multiples of 16 are valid, eg 512 512 96

first i created a server and thank you for that but i was wondering do i have to keep the program open all the time so people can use it and how did you get everyone started as in how did you find people to promote to op while your not on

You have to leave the program running at all times. The rest of your post doesn't make any sense, sorry.

Your url keeps changing cuz your IP is changing so you will need to find the url in the folder in url.txt

ok good i've been wanting to start my own classic server for a while :D

I have gotten through most of startup but when i open up run.py in python launcher 2.6 and type "python run.py" into terminal it gives me this(entire line of code on the terminal)

What do i need to do next to run and connect to my server

Hi Turtle.
That is a very strange bug you've got there, and its probably because i don't have a mac to test the software on!
I will try get a fix for you soon, however, the being unable to connect is caused by either your firewall, or the lack of port-forwarding.
You will need to port forward port 25565 to your mac. This can be done in your router settings. There are a number of guides for doing this available online.
If you need more assistance open up a topic in the opticraft server software support section.

Like spartan said, don't open the salt just read the readme. It is there for a reason, to help you!

the console keeps saying
(Heartbeat) Failed to register heartbeat, trying again... (A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond)

It does that, it doesnt really matter. Dont worry about it.

my server wont let me connect
it says i have on the console it says

and on my WOM client it loads the loading screen then says it has disconected

Put a .save file in the Templates folder, and you can load maps like that.
There won't be opticraft beta software.

Umm... I think you have to save the world. I think there's some sort of converter that converts .mine to .save ... that's what you would have to do. Or get a map editor.

There is no physics. All commands are listed under /commands in game (provided you have owner status)

Change the log level in the config to debug and see if it shows a message.
in opticraft.ini look for the following
[logs]

Ok i have a question.
I already have my server up and everything but I have encountered a problem.
Everytime I shutdown the server(safely) then start it back up all creations,all words,everything is
gone in-game.
I was wondering if there is anything I could do to save these files because /backup and /save aren't
doing there jobs :(

You have to convert them which is not easy. However, i'll give you the templates for the ones i use.
www.opticraft.net/Templates.rar - Copy that into your opticraft directory. Then you will be able to load template worlds ingame using /showtemplates, /loadtemplate. Hope that helps you.

Optic, I have the templates and they show up when I do /showtemplates
But for somereason when I do/loadtemplate the world I create doesn't use the template.
Please help me with this.

You put a .save file in there you want to use as a template. Eg, if you have a world you want to reuse as a template, copy its .save file from the Worlds folder into the Templates folder.

im looking for a vps server to run my server on just wondering what kind of specs does the software need say per ten players?

Players doesn't really matter. The only resource you have to worry about is RAM, and that depends on how many worlds you're going to run.
If you are only going to have say 5 worlds, 256mb should do you, provided they're not all huge. I would recommend getting 512mb if you can though.

Fixed, it was a misunderstanding. Although even when I edit the preferences it wont take it into account and runs the server as defualt.
