Title: Mabye you could fix that /back glitch which allows people into homes?
Post by: square_skull on March 06, 2013, 08:01:30 am
Personally I don' want my home trolled so I was wondering if there was
a way to modify the "/back" command so it doesn't make you go through
things. If it's a too difficult task or too annoying, forget I asked.

thanks for the consideration,
Square_Skull

I'm pretty sure this has been asked before, and there was no way to fix it.

We could disable /back and only do /return

We could disable /back and only do /return
/back and /return are the same thing. /return is merely an alias.

I attempted to remove everyone permission to use /back a few months ago but it wouldn't work for some reason.

/back is a plugin command.
/return is built into the server.

Two notable differences:

/return returns you to the last place you ever warped. Even if you /return from somewhere, you can do /return again and go back to the location you /returned from. If you are somewhere and you do /back, then the location you /backed to is the location you will always tp to when you use /back until you /warp somewhere, or teleport, or /home somewhere. The /back command also tends to place your character a fraction of a block to the left of where you really were. This was fixed, however. If you begin to merge with a block (or into a wall), the plugin will place you on the other side of the entire structure so long as it is enclosed with a door (I tested this out one time).

Oh you're right, yes. Here's something worth noting though:
If you use /return you'll get the message "Returning to previous location." which is used by Essentials.
If you use /back you won't get any message, even though /back is supposed to be the same as /return.
This can only mean there's some plugin using the command /back which is overriding Essentials /back.

I did some tests on my own server, and both /back and /return are giving me the "Returning to previous location." message, which is what they should both do. Bukkit has no /back command, so there's no way that could be interfering. So maybe we need Optical or Dejected look into whats overriding /back.

When Nick took away the permissions node to use /back, I believe it blocked permission to use the overriding /back command, because you can't phase through walls to get into a structure anymore. If you try to then the function will simply place you on the other side of the enclosed structure, or keep you on the same side but not merged into the wall. I believe it's fixed.

Nevermind, /back is a feature in the OptiPlugin and Dejected knows about this issue and will be taking a look at it.

i fixed the issue with /back not working correctly if you used /back twice in a row

i'm not sure about about the "glitch which allows people into homes" - could this be described a little more?

when i say "allows people into home" i mean, when youdo /back and it makes you
go backwards or to the left or whatever, it can be used to make you go through a
wall. I know this because my friend has tested it out and it allowed him to go through
my doors (which I had locked to any other player (this test was also done with my
permission)). I believe the /back glitch has still not been fixed because there is still
a way to use it to phase through walls into peoples homes.

Well I attempted to remove the essentials /back so there is either some other plugin with /back or pex just sucks in game.

I was the tester and it was /back that i used.
It does not work on trapdoors placed on the ground
It works for any area where you're surrounded by blocks/doors etc
It does not work for iron door if there's no way to get past it
It works for wooden doors unless trapdoor is next to it
it does not work for walls

/back can be used to go back and forth in between walls, since when you use /back it teleports you slightly to the side of the block, continuing it moves you further and further till you pop out the other side

I wanna explain clearly. If you go up to a door with the inward side towards you, you do /home and /back, i think the plugin TP's you to the top cause it thinks of the door as a solid block and /back cant suffocate you

the point why I raised the /back glitch could get you through doors
was not to talk about whether it does or how it does it, but can this
issue be taken up and fixed so Opticraft can be a bit more Grief-free?

how is this causing griefing? If they were going to grief they would just grief past the door.

Protection stones Nick.

Just use /return, it's better because you don't lose full enchanted diamond tools and armor from it putting you in The Void

So you're saying a protection stone would protect the walls of a house, but not the inside contents of it?
Also, telling people to use /return is useless. If people know about this bug they're not gonna think twice about using /return.

The only way my /back command works is that if I am in spawn, or i have been in a certain area for a long period of time. So let's say little timmy fell to his death in a ravine. He would have to go and retrace his steps to get his stuff back. That's because he tried doing the /back command, and it didn't work. (Derp Moment) But I haven't heard of /return though....

I was responding to nick's comment about saying they griefers would just grief through the walls if they were there to grief. People could just use /back to get through it if there was a protection stone.
