Title: Regular dodecahedron
Post by: Mr.Monkey on March 14, 2012, 06:10:40 pm
Not as difficult name as the last one, some of you might actually have known what is was before you clicked it.

The dodecahedron is, as the name already explains (for those that know ancient Greek, or had platonic solids in maths class) any shape consisting of 12 (dodeca) faces (hedron). This case is special because they are all 12 regular pentagons. There are only 5 regular polyhedra that can be constructed by using just one type of regular polygon of which the dodecahedron is in my opinion the most astonishing.

Next step is the a 3D depiction of the 120-cell, which consists of 120 of these dodecahedra, folded in 4D space.

I understood it all up until you said "4D space", then I was like:  :o
But after a bit of google-ing/wikipedia-ing I think I understand.  Here it goes.

So the "120-cell" is a 4D shape (hence impossible to make in Minecraft :P) which you can make a kind of 3D "shadow" of, similar to how light makes a 2D shadow of a 3D object... only much more complicated... please confirm if this is basically correct, or just me spurting nonsense! :P

Also, this:
I honestly think that you are the best builder in this game.

when i logged on and saw that you had your own world, i went there and saw the building, and then i saw this dodecahedron floating above me.

but then i thought, why is there a huge wall of wool here? then i went to the other side....

the iron ores at the top, which does the shadow effect below, the use of the top part of the tnt, and all of these in just 2 layer, im speechless. I already knew you could do amazing things with 5 layers when doing pixel art, but making the rose come alive with just 3 layers... simply amazing.

for what its worth, you are the best pixel art/sprite maker in the whole of minecraft. nothing less.

thanks for inspiring me to build epic things mrmonkey. :D
