I found a better map, but not all classrooms are named, and it's turned in an uneasy way.
Big plus though is that this one is divided for each floor, and it looks much more like the castle from the films.

If I want to use any time on it, I need to be sure that anyone involved are fully capable of doing such a mass project, and still having it detailed.

Oh if it wasn't clear when I said "I'm for it", I want to actually help with the building too! :D Man, but you gotta wonder how long this will take to complete if it even takes off! Heck the building is waaay more complex than anything I've seen built on this server....I hope whoever wants to build this is determined enough to finish it....I know I am! :P

The basic structure should not take too long with a good plan and come big cuboids ;) it's the details and the interior that will cost most of the time

I got the HP5 game, and I must say I liked the floorplans. I will try to find a way to get hold of that :P as it has the plan per floor and I could take some ingame screens for the details.

i tried to get prated 3d models........ but i failed....
the only model i found had no seeds so i couldn't download it...
the legal 3d model is 175 dollars(or euros... idk anymore)....
this is a big issue if we mant to make a replica, no?

Ok, I got this 3D model, it's quite basic, without much windows, and the textures are very bland too, but at least we got something to work on :P downloadlink (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19711803/Hogwarts%20Full%20no%20texture.skp) Where possible I can get some screens of details ingame though. We also need to decide whether we will do the grounds too, maybe some part of the forest too, but I think the lake and the forest are fine boundaries. I'd love to make the quidditch field ;D or Hagrid's hut

I actually decided not to do it, at least not any time soon :P The problem is that there are too many different maps of Hogwarts, since it changed a lot during the years. If I ever would be going to make it, it would at least be on a beta world, so we can make the entire grounds too.

Beta! We would need someone to host the server. Someone with amazing connectivity and ram :P I could do it once I get my alien ware.

Out of interest, is there a world seed for a totally flat land? (Like Opticraft worlds if they had no buildings/grief-traps/spawn points etc.?
And would you say to cheat for materials, or have many people just mining or smelting?

Neither would i TBH as i am not the worlds greatest builder, but i can organise and help out with a good mine. Is hogwarts made out of stone or cobblestone (castle stone thingy) Because stone would take a lot longer but look better (In my opinion only?)
Do you know about my seed question?
And lastly, what will happen with stuff, would we have:
1. On Peaceful
2. On Easy/Medium/Hard but with some defenders
3. Keep using /time set 0 or something

I agree with relkeb, this needs some more thought before quitting on it. Beta world would be more than enough to complete this.

Then the best we could do is about 5 miners, 10 builders :S Might work, but very slow. Also, wouldn't he need to white list it to stop griefers coming on if they hear/see it being talked about?

I want to open a beta server made especially for the Hogwarts idea. If this idea gets into action can I host it? I would be very happy to do it. I can even be a miner if people need help. Just give me the details like what should be the player capacity and stuff like that. I'll even name the server after it like "Hogwarts Freebuild' or something like that...

You can make a massive cuboid and dig lots of ground down.

it's indeed canceled, though i have seen ppl get the same idea, if we do it, we've gotta do it fast.
currently there is a person working on a hogwards but i don't think he'll go in much detail (if i look at his build speed)

You could get everyone who is going to participate and have them chip in and pay someone to host a beta server for you.....

That's why you don't pay a random person, you pay a company to host the server. There's are tons of server hosting companies out there.

I am currently using servercraft.co
Although it takes ages to work out how everything works, it is quite good once you get it working :)
