Title: Voting on Planet Minecraft
Post by: DJAlphaWolf on December 20, 2012, 06:07:24 am
Hello fellow opticrafters.

So i know that we already have 4 voting sites and those are the most reliable and most viewed sites. But I thought I would suggest just one more.

I am suggesting we advertise on planet minecraft. The difference between planet minecraft and most voting sites is that other voting sites require certain fees to be a featured server on their list. The great thing about planet minecraft is that it runs on votes, favorites and diamonds (rather than just votes and payments). Now diamonds are a relatively new concept to the 'voting site game'.

You have all heard the phrase "Diamonds are forever". On planet minecraft, thats especially true. Diamonds are like 1-time votes that appear on the server's page forever (until someone takes it back off).

Favorites should be pretty self explanatory xD.

The combination of favoriting the page once, diamonding it once and voting daily (before it resets at the end of the month) help put the server up higher on the list. Now with all the vast competition out there on the site, we might not be number 1...But that does not mean we won't be visited by many curious guests.

Long explanation short. Planet Minecraft is a very popular site that is viewed by many MineCrafters. It is free to upload the server. And although it does not feature special payments (at least that im aware of) to give us a boost in our competition, I am confident in us as a community, to be able to gather tons of votes, diamonds and favorites getting us up on top.

"I'm from Planet Minecraft. I'm here to review this server. Please OP me." [cough]

... Oh, sorry... Wrong thread ;D

I'm sure Planet Minecraft has fees as well to be on its top servers lists.

This could be somewhat reasonable. Of course, maybe more noobs will come in "reviewing" our server, but there are more people willing to play as well.

this is what would happen
"Hi, I'm from Planet Minecraft, I review servers to get them on the top server list. May I have OP so I can test out the permissions?"
we still have problems with this but it would probably get worse if we did this.

I kinda would actually half like it better like that...more trolling for me :D

Well you can specifically state that we won't tolerate noobish things as "I'm reviewing this server for Planet Minecraft" in the description. :-\ Having the server advertised on PMC has as many upsides as downsides. One major downside is that there are some MC hackers, like Team Avo., that can do real damage to the server's reputation while they have the chance. There was also another thing that made me fret of advertising on PMC, but I can't seem to recal it… ???

I think this would help. Yes, there would be some PMC Ranking tweakers, but they're never much of a problem. I think this would be good for us as a whole.

I like this suggestion.  You're just going to have to get used to the people claiming they are from PM.  It happense to almost everyone who puts their server on PM.  So that's one of the reasons why we won't put our server on PM?  It's really not a big deal. Just ignore them and I can assume that less and less people are doing that because they know people won't believe them.

What happens when an actual PM ops comes on?

Planet Minecraft Op: Hi :D

 Opticraft Up: Nuuu go away

If the "reviewers" come, I'm sure our organized and efficient staff can take care of them in mere moments. Besides, it gives staff more to do. Rather than waiting for a helpop.

Anyways, I wonder if this might still be a possibility...xD

I agree with Dj on this one, it would be a good idea to put this server on planet minecrafts server list / vote list, as we are simply having a lack of players online on both servers of what i've seen since i've been back.

team avo? Pssh. We record their usernames, and if they come on they get tped to a jail cell and it sends a ticket to a staff member. They get interrogated. Most likely banned.
Done.

Yeah, they're famous enough. I was just using them as an example :P
But otherwise, I guess the server should be posted live on PMC

Alright so, since its my own topic. I am allowed to necro it i believe.

I recently saw a thread talking about votifier and I remembered about this thread I posted. It never got an official response. So i'm curious to see if this voting site is still a possibility for us as a server.

Voting on PMC=Divide by 0

It's hard.

Noob: Hey, I'm from planet Minecraft. I'm here to make a server review, but if you want me to do the review I will need OP for a short while.

Me: No. No. Leave. We no like you.

I really dont understand the relationship with voting on planet minecraft and a guy claiming to be from planet minecraft. Not every guest/member knows we even have a voting system.

Besides as ive said before.....it can be handled quite easily...as a mod now, ive observed that when a person spams or says ridiculous junk...the kick time is almost instant.....therefore that means we are quite prepared for any troll who thinks he can actually get a staff rank by saying he's from planet minecraft.

I want some positive/negative feedback fellas. People claiming that they are from planet minecraft is not a legitimate enough excuse to reject this idea.

I, as a member of PMC [level 9 :D] think this would be a great idea.

Looking at the website now, and there's about 10k people online and 916k total members, thats 10k potential guests joining and enjoying opticraft (assuming they see the post)

Diamonds do play a huge role in PMC, they're a way of saying "I enjoyed this server and I think it deserves to be well known by others" or "This server is great". The more diamonds the server gets in a given amount of time (along with other variables) allows the server to be on the "Pop-reel" for maximum exposure.

I do not see a negative effect in having the server's information on PMC.

Sure there's going to be those "server reviewers" but that should not decide whether or not this is done, that only implies that the players with Administrative roles on the server would have more to cope with. I, as a Classic Operator have received plenty of PM's from users saying they need to be Op'd for this reason. Simple answer is NO, maybe even a kick if its necessary. Everyone should know that PMC does not send out random people to review servers. And if they did, ask for their PMC Username and do some research.

Uploading a server to PMC is free (As far as I know), easy, and self-explanatory

*Gives Op*

Anyway I am all for us getting more exposure, and as it was said, their isn't really a downside to it at all. I'd even be willing to do the work for getting us advertised there. Since our only reason not to would seem to be that it takes effort :P

I agree with DJ. Some noob coming on saying he is from PMC isn't enough to reject this. Out of the potential say, 100 that we would gain from this, only 2 or 3 would be newbish.

The only difference (I think) from PMC to the other voting sites is that on PMC you can only give a diamond once. Unlike these other sites where they reset, Planet Mine Craft seems like a good way to put the Opticraft name out there to a new audience but we wont get daily diamonds from it. So maybe when you give a diamond to Opticraft on PMC you get something other than a diamond on Opticraft. Since as I said before it is a one time vote, and can only be obtained once

I agree that players should be rewarded for "Diamonding" the server. However, I am not sure if there's an automatic, or easy way to give players the rewarded item without going back and forth to the server's PMC page and digging through the list of people who Diamond'd the server. Also, some players have different PMC usernames from their IGN's.

Bitch pleasw.
I dont have a Pmc.
Why not voting rewards and not diamond rewards?

The problem with diamonding. You can take the diamonds back. Therefore people can basically take the reward and exploit.

I don't have a solution for this yet though. :/

Until we find the solution to ensure of no exploitations, I suggest no rewards. Find me a solution and then you can go reward crazy.

Bump.

Sorry for the bump guys but this topics been up since December 20. I've gotten positive feedback from players and staff but I am still anxious for an answer from an admin or opti. I just want to know if this is a possibility at all.

I'm not trying to rush anyone. I'm just very curious.

It's one of who knows how many vote sites so it's not really a major urgent thing. I'll bring it up with Opti though.

I believe that the voting on PMC is a good idea. Either way i know that the server being uploaded to pmc will be beneficial since many people use their services to find servers.
