Probably it will go to epic scale. It was a test server anyway so they didn't need to put much work into the spawn.

In 1.9/full release, you do collect orbs to count towards your score when you die. When you do die I think they dissapear and only count towards your score (correct me if I'm wrong)
Your exp will be with your items when you die, however, you do lose a lot of it.
