Title: Setting /Home restrictions
Post by: Nikoljan on May 06, 2013, 03:19:50 pm
Hello all! Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I wanted to make a small suggestion I thought of today. We have quite a few users who are private about their homes , and I noticed placing door blocks at /home is common to prevent entry. I was wondering if there is some way we could permit certain restrictions when creating a /home. To prevent unwanted players access. Ex. Setprivatehome and so on.  To clarify, I'm not talking about land/area access , I'm referring to using someone else's /home.
I think even being able to toggle private or public for a current home is an idea as well.
Thanks again, cheers.
Nikoljan.

PS: if I were to write the code would it be something you all would consider.

I agree with your suggestion. This has been suggested before. I am not entirely sure why this suggestion has not been implemented as there hasn't really been any down side to this thought up of. It may be that the staff do not have the time to implement this.

However, if you want to write the code for such a function, don't post it. Sounds crazy, but I posted a code snippet once, and people pretty much called me a "script kiddy" trying to show off with simple code. Also, the staff here are a little uneasy about code coming from outside sources. At least they are from my point of view.

Thanks for the feedback! And yeah I can see how they might be uneasy about an outside code. I'm throwing various options out there.   ;)

This is a pretty cool suggestion, it can be useful for people who are making projects, or just starting out. What I have seen some trusteds do to provide some kind of protection for their home is type "/sethome %a<name>" which makes the home appear to be accessable by just typing /home <player> <name> after typing /homes <player> because the name will show up in a green tint.

It's because this is a suggestions board, and showing how the code works is not a suggestion.

What about suggesting how the code could work?

I think the main thing optical / admins need from a suggestion is the basic idea of it. Everything else can be handled when it needs to be.

We dont allow that though.

I'd be interested in seeing if anyone else supports this idea and has anything to add. Please disregard the code comment as it seems to be derailing the topic of this post ^.^

Personally I hate the idea of making private homes. It would be frustrating

Perhaps, but I think it would be better than teleporting into a box of doors that someone created. People unfortunately try to ender pearl through them anyways. This would also resolve the issue of people using /back to break into people's homes.

It'd be great to have a private home! Specifically, my city is not 100% protected, and people can glitch out of my /home to grief. I've had big problems with this in the past. If I could make a private home, i wouldn't have to worry about this at all. Please consider this suggestion, it'd be really great.

I don't know if this was in the original idea, but I'm pretty sure this wasn't meant to replace public homes. I think it was meant to be another option.
