You had to post this. You had to.
I will say this one time, and one time only: using Spritecraft and GIMP is cheating, because they create a blueprint of blocks for you. All you do then is copy them into Minecraft. There's no challenge to it at all. When you make them legitimately, it is much harder because there are hundreds of shades in the picture and only a few blocks to choose from. If you don't believe me, then try it yourself. Make a large picture in Minecraft using only Paint, then tell me it doesn't take skill. That is all.

So because it's more difficult to use Paint, using an easier application, such as GIMP, is "cheating" (even though it doesn't really go with the definition of "Cheat")?

Does the difficulty of the task really matter as long as you get the same result? You have two pixel arts that look exactly alike. One person used Paint and spent hours examining each pixel and then placing the block. Another guy used GIMP and has a blueprint of the art and took a few hours patiently place each block. The GIMP guy's cheating just because he used an easier method even though the result is the same for both?

Imo, work smart, not hard.

I'm not saying using Paint is bad; in fact, if that's how one prefers it and likes the challenge of doing it like that, then more power to you. But because somebody did an easier method to it, doesn't mean it's cheating.

I'm up for a collab; but we need a theme, right?

Idk how that will work. I'm assuming either YM will tell us what theme to go for, or he'll just let us decide.

I've seen this come up a few times before where people who use GIMP or Spritecraft to make pixel art are accused of "cheating" for using those programs, and I'm curious as to what the rest of the community thinks about it.

Also, the reason why I gave GIMP and Spritecraft their own options is because setting up everything for the image to be turned into a pixel art/sprite is different between the two.

And I don't want to start any flame wars or anything. Just a civil discussion if anything.

I'm willing to collaborate with others to help build the spawn area.
same with me

I would also be willing to collab with other builders for a spawn area. But, atm, we probably need to know the layout of the arenas (and hopefully a new world will be made soon to begin work) before we could begin building.

Out of curiosity, since the contest is officially over, is the judging not going to start until all three of those arenas are finished, or just until Search and Destroy has an entry?

(While I was afk while this all went down, I have the whole thing on my wom logs)

Kursed, please don't leave.

Just because one person said that the walls look bland and that they serve no purpose, even though the build isnt even half-way to being finished, doesn't mean you should give up and leave.

Please don't let him get to you, and just keep on doing your best.

That arena is superb hedge. Same problem as before though, those lovely lil dragon sprites are gonna get destroyed when people use it. :P

I know, but it'll be fine. I did them because I was bored. :P
copy the floor and leave it off to the side, then when the round is over, to reset just paste it back over.

That's a good idea (it's also the same thing Kodak did when we Spleefed on my Classic Spleef Arena), but wouldnt it seem like a hassle to have an "official" Spleef floor where you have to reset it by pasting?

Hello. I'd like to make another submission to the contest.

This arena is for Spleef the Flag and has a floor of 40x100.

The arena is currently located In Guest259, but I'm hoping that a new Builder world will be made soon so that it can be in there instead.

Nick copied the arena to a new Builder world for me. :)

Since a new Builder world has been made, I'll update the location of the arena. It's in Builder21.

Come on guys, let's make some arenas so that our new Spleef world doesn't remain empty!

Hello, I would like to submit my arena for the Spleef Arena Contest.
This arena would be used for Classic Spleef and has a 50x50 floor.

The arena is located in the world Builder18.

Edit: I had to add four more starting points, so I updated the screenshots now. There are four starting points that can be accessed without /fly or WOM, and four that cannot.
Edit: Changed the starting points that are in the middle on top of the walls to glass.
Edit: All starting points are now accessible without /fly or WOM.

Thank for reading!

Great job with the arena Unknown! Out of interest why did you have it moved?

I was running out of room in the previous Builder world. 2 of the 4 arches would have to be built through somebody else's build in order to complete it. So, I asked Nick if it could be moved, and I guess he put it in a new world. :)

I started this Arena in the previous Builder world (Builder17), but I had an admin copy and paste it to the current one (which is why if you /about most blocks, it will likely say Nick rather than me). This took awhile to make but I think it was worth it at the end.

Anyway, there are four arches that go up on each corner, and the Spleef field itself is suspended by chains connected to the arches. The Spleef field is also 50x50 blocks.

I also had some help from others. Starry cuboid the Spleef field so that it would be the darker color it is now (as opposed to being white, which i had it built originality), and Kodak cuboid the water and cobblestone for the "pool" of water underneath the field. Thanks for helping you two. :)
