General Discussion / Cake in the memberworld statue
« on: August 30, 2012, 03:34:37 am »
Hey so I was bored and using enderpearls to check places out around spawn, such as the roof of the spawn building. Anyhow I teleported in behind the head of the statue and found a cake! Heres a screenshot.

Projects and Creations / Everest in opticraft. a thought
« on: July 14, 2012, 06:28:36 am »
Currently the world generation does not take advantage of the full height that was added in 1.2. This means that to see a mountain as tall as the world height we must build it ourselves. Of course this is an almost impossible undertaking and will probably never see the light of day by anyone, it was a thought I had but after doing the math I realize it is impossible.

The slope of mount everest, as explained and found in this mildly annoying video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECH7LQb75VU is found to be .76; a Tangent value of .76 translates to a degree slope of 37 (using the http://web2.0calc.com/) Please feel free to disect and fix my mistakes in math, it has been a while

With 255 being the maximum altitude for block placement in minecraft, and 62 being the maximum height for sea level, (see http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Altitude) we know that we have a 193 block space to work with. The height of everest is 8840m and base camps on the tibet and nepal sides are around 3200m. This means we have 5620m from base camp to the summit of everest. This is the area I think we should try to mimic as it is the most well documented area. Anyways with a slope of 36 degrees, and a height of 5620 we can find the slope to be 9388m long and the base to be around 7458m.

Taking this down to minecraft terms, by multiplying all values by around .035 we could bring it down to minecraft terms. The height become 196, the base becomes 261m which must be multiplied by 2 as i have done all calculations so far as a right triangle so it become 522m. This is a huge undertaking and it's late at night so I dont even want to begin trying to find the volume. Just doing this math I realize how silly this seems. I marked out 500m and let me tell you, it is a huge distance.

Hello! I thought it would be neat to have a collection of photos from users doing their favourite activity in opticraft. The idea is to post a picture of you doing whatever you spend the most time doing in opticraft, which for me is caving. So here is mine.

Rules
  • Your photo should include evidence of it being opticraft (chatboxes, recognizable buildings if hud is off etc)
  • You may edit the photos, however it should be small modifications such as filters.
  • Obviously do not include photos that break the rules of the site, or show evidence of breaking the rules of the server

Enjoy! I can't wait to see some neat photos

Projects and Creations / Villager protection/trading post
« on: July 13, 2012, 05:11:59 am »
Hey when 1.3 comes out I'm excited about trading with villagers, however that will not be easy on opticraft. villagers are hard to find, expensive to obtain, and just generally not accessible. So with the support from others who have villagers, I would like to develop some kind of system of keeping the villagers protected, but able to be traded with. I'm still not sure as to how to do this, however I still think we need some kind of public trading post. lll get on creative and test some designs in the meantime,

Hey all! I need some help location some old stuff I had in the nether. My old portal seems to put me at a completely new place. What I am looking for is two blaze spawners, which will probably list bobbarkee, missenvy, 323gtx, or myself on a sign, and one of the spawners has an automated trap which i expect is probably griefed like crazy. once at this town I can find my way back to them. If you see either let me know. And heres a link to my old netherton thread: http://www.opticraft.net/index.php/topic,6920.0.html I'm sure someone must have seen them since I left them.

In the meantime I will be exploring the nether trying to find this lost town.

Hi I'm selling a town that I recently bought and renovated. It is located at /home lanthus20 and is for sale at $7000 or make me an offer. Pictures will follow when I have the time. The town is partially walled and I am still in the process of fixing up the hillsides where people built into and I removed the houses. It looks unnatural now and once that's fixed the town will be ready to sell. Please take a look and feel free to walk around

Support / My protection stone is gone!!
« on: March 04, 2012, 01:10:55 am »
Hey! So i live in underside, it's below seaside and anyways when I logged in today there was a sign at my door that said "this harbor has a new owner plz read message board" and a hole in my house 2x1 (person sized). Then I went in and there was another sign in the house, and when I looked up at my protection stone, it wasn't there! What is happening? Who owns underside now? there were no signs on the message board!

Ban Appeals / My Melon Farm got griefed, I got blamed? Ban Appeal
« on: February 25, 2012, 10:32:54 pm »
Hello, I cannot login right now because of a "bad login". I assume thats banned. My sister, MissEnvy told me that i was banned because our melon farm got griefed and I was banned for it. Specifically, she said she had talked to Drowse about it and he said I griefed it because I was the last to edit it. I edit it all the time because I am removing melon blocks and retilling/replanting the dirt blocks. It's even more absurd because I'm the one who built the farm! Why would I grief my own farm?

Suggestions / Safe Trading machine! Admins/mods check this out!
« on: February 24, 2012, 06:42:39 pm »
Hey guys! I saw sethbling's youtube video (link below) about a two player trading system, so I made my own quick proof of concept machine. It is located in underside at the coordinates

x: -90
y:64
z: 142

I would like a few mods and admins to come check it out, I made some signs to try and help you use it. I think this could best be implemented in the market though, so if you like the machine I can build a prettier, more well polished machine and you can move it to the market or wherever. Anyways heres a screenshot of my build (although I made a few quick tweaks such as making a way for players to actually get to the item deposit area, missed that haha)

And sethbling's video

Netherton

Hi, I have decided to start building a town in the nether, as I have been living in the nether myself for a while now and it's not very fun without people there. So i then go back to my house in the overworld. So I have started this town, and am looking for inhabitants, I need skillfull builders who will be able to make good looking houses for the town, and just builders who are respectful of the others in the town. I already have a basic layout done, and you can build in an already designated plot, or anywhere you want.

How to get there
Netherton can be easily accessed at the moment as I have placed it as my home point. If you do not know what this means, just press "t" and type in:
Code: [Select]
/home lanthus20
In the future, if this project gains a lot of support I would like to go ahead and attempt to get a mod/admin's help to create a warp. Regardless, you will end up in the "spawn house".

Getting Started
After arriving at the spawn house you should immediately see a message board to your left, please take time to read the information on it, it contains all the details about netherton including population, building code, and as in all other towns the "no griefing" sign. I also have some quick notices in the bottom of the board.

Building Code
The building code is fairly simple. All buildings should be of 11x11 size or less. I do not particularly care about the height. Larger buildings will be allowed for public things, but please check and get approval from either me, or other members of the community. Basically, don't just build big stuff on your own on a whim.

The outside of buildings should be made of a material that is non flammable, and ideally resistant to ghast explosions. We all know the dangers of the nether, and they can quickly destroy a poorly made building.

Support / (Seaside residents building into underside)
« on: January 27, 2012, 10:54:35 pm »
Hi, I'm a resident of underside and in case you havent seen, seaside is above us. It's basically a two layer town. The problem is though, their floor is our roof and we've been having a few problems. one time i came home to a bunch of ugly yellow and green wool in my roof, so i covered it and thats fine and all, but what i just saw angers me. The seaside pawn building, whoever owns it, has decided that it needs a basement, so they built down into underside. now there is a large wooden rectangle sticking out of our roof, and will be a nuisance to anybody trying to build there in the future. What I want, is for this to be removed, and for some rules put in place concerning building basements when there are people directly below you.
