Of course he 'cheated' on it, he posted a pixelated version of the picture, if you couldn't tell.

I don't mean to sound rude, Wyboth, but there's no need to be so intuitive about cheating on a sprite, man.

p.s. happy birthday terrewee

Chill out Mega, I'm just teasing them about cheating. They can cheat on sprites if they want to; I just prefer legitamate sprites. Oh, and happy birthday, Terre.

I accept your challenge, if you agree to not judge me on time. What are the exact dimensions of your sprite?
Also, I am about to start on a sprite in Mr. Monkey's world, so I willed have to finish that one before I begin on the one in your world.

If you're so great at sprites, and you don't need to 'cheat' then why are you not a builder yet? Honestly, it's not cheating when you place every single block yourself, cheating to me is having a program make the sprite for you. If you place every single individual block yourself, it's not cheating even when you're using a pixelated image to know what type of block to place. So just shut your trap alright?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. My opinion of cheating is using a program that gives you an exact 'blueprint' of the blocks you need to place. This removes the challenge of deciding which blocks you have to place yourself. You're free to cheat if you want, but not cheated on sprites are better imo because more effort was spent making them.

I will let you choose the picture, just resize it correctly, please. Also, remember that I need to finish my sprite in Mr. Monkey's world (which I'm nowhere near finishing) before I can begin your challenge.
Have you tried just using regular Minecraft.net instead of WoM? If that still doesn't work, try using a different computer.

yeah i did but the thing was that i installed the wrong java, which led to a freeze in wom and in smp :P
(i reinstalled it and rebooted my pc and it was fixed)
though something is wrong with the resolution wom is showing (it only shows half the screen)

anyway, wyboth, your added and later today i'll post a picture (and why do you need it resized? i thought you did it by eye, the bigger the picture the better the detail right?(advice from own experience))

By resized, I meant that it needs to be whatever size you want me to build it in Minecraft. Also, as I understand it, the maximum world height is 192 blocks. How am I supposed to make a 252 block high sprite if I'm not building it on the floor?

What? I don't know what you're saying. You said that I had to make a sprite as large as yours, and yours is 252 blocks tall, so I was asking how I was supposed to fit it. I can't do it of the floor, because your dragon tail thingy is casting a shadow on the floor, and I can't do it on the walls because the height limit is 192, which can not fit a 252 block high sprite. So what do I do? Should I make a smaller sprite? Or should I build it in another world, preferrably an empty one?
Also, I know I asked you to provide the image, but I remembered there was a sprite that I really wanted to make, and this would be the perfect opportunity to make it.

I was about to ask the same question, you can't fit that large of a sprite in such a small world.
Title: Re: the sprite that was worked on way too long.
Post by: Wyboth on August 05, 2012, 12:21:59 am
Terrewee, this is your last chance. Please give me working links to the sprites you want me to make and tell me if you would rather have me make one of the sprites you suggested or the one I posted here. Also, tell me if you want to re-size them so they will fit on the walls of your world or provide me with an empty world to work in. If you do not do this, then the challenge is void because the challenger did not provide the challengee with the necessary materials to complete the challenge, and I win by default. Please hurry with your decision; I am growing impatient.

I was going to do that at first, but then I decided to put that one on hold so I wouldn't keep Terrewee waiting. But now he's keeping me waiting, and right now it looks like the contest isn't going to happen, so I am returning to the Hourglass Nebula.

well, i don't realy  care if it's as large as mine i jsut want you to do a big one that is bigger than you did before ;)
it's totaly fine by me if you wanna do that sprite on the wall or what ever
all i ask you to do is not rescale the picture your looking from and just sprite it when it's in it's original resolution ;)
(so basicaly you look at your 500px × 400px picture and sprite it 192px X whatever you feel like, that i can do and i expect you to be able to do it too)
and i expect you to be able to do it in 2 layers without water leaves and lava, ok?

Hold on. You just said don't resize anything, but resize my 400 x 500 sprite? I don't get it.
Also, please add me as a builder to your world if you haven't already. And I was already planning on doing 2 layers without water, glass leaves, etc.

I'm guessing that since I became inactive from classic around 6 months ago, no new tall art world was made in that span of time, i still remember that bleach pixel art, and that was made even before I joined :D

anyways, glad to see builders still building epic and crafter-y things :D:D

I still don't get what you're saying. I HAVE to resize it if I want to make the full image in the game. Otherwise, it will be full size, but only part of the picture will be made because there isn't room for all of it at full size. PLEASE explain to me what you mean. I have no idea what "sprite it smaller in the world" means. Do you mean to make it in minecraft as if the picture were resized, but without actually resizing the picture? Do you mean that I would take a full-sized picture and compress the pixels in my mind, then make it in minecraft? If so, I would have to make it 1/4 size, because I can't resize to odd dimensions in my mind.
PLEASE respond to this and tell me very clearly what you want me to do. Thanks.
Also, I still can't build in your world. I don't know why after you supposedly added me I don't have building permissions. If Terre's world won't work, could someone else volunteer their world? Preferrably someone who has space for such a behemoth sprite. :)

i'm saying that i want you not to resize it with a program but with your mind, else your just looking at it pixel per pixel and just make up out of those pixels what block it should be! xD
i wanted to challenge you to do something NEW not something you can already do!  ;)
soo just keep the picture the way it is and try to resize it in your mind and not with a program.

(palette or no palette, it is the same. you look at a pixel, you see what kind of block it is and you place it. i'm trying to teach you what TRUE spriting is, so no looking at pixels, but looking at a actual picture and try to recreate that image but on a smaller scale.
i hope you can understand this?)

Yeah, I get what you mean, you just weren't explaining it clearly before. It sounds tough, but I'll do it.
I still don't think I can build in your world, so I might have to use someone else's world since there's a glitch or something where you can't add me to your world. I need a world that is 192 blocks tall. Are there any volunteers?

Uhh ok, be careful there Terre.
If that doesn't work, I just saw that Whatsupguys1 has an almost empty world that would work perfectly. If he ever gets on, I'll ask him if Terre's lethal thing doesn't work.

I have no idea what's wrong. I still can't build there. Maybe I could use someone else's world instead?
And you'd better change your world rank limit back before some of those new recruits set their eyes on your wip dragon...

Update: MrMonkey92 is now working, IE. WoM doesn't crash when I join it. That world will be perfect for this sprite. Could you add me as a builder, monkey?

It's not that hard to understand actually, we already figured it out yesterday. The crafter personal worlds have their rank set to builder, so, whatever you set the zone rank to, or whomever you add, if their rank is below the rank required by the world to build in, they can't build in it. I think Wyboth already pm'ed the admins about the problem though. They will either have to lower the required rank of the worlds, or let zone's required build rank and added builders take priority over the world's required build rank. This last option would be preferable but would require some fixing in the code and might be more difficult than it sounds.

Nick has already changed the world rank for both Terrewee's and Mr. Monkey's worlds, so I can build in both. I'm guessing Terrewee wants me to build in his world, since it's his challenge.
We should probably move this discussion about Terrewee's challenge to my sprites thread in projects, so there aren't 10 pages about this on a thread that's supposed to be about his sprites.
