Title: New board. "Community" -For cities, trade, and unofficial events-
Post by: Hasan (Tabooti) on May 17, 2012, 12:15:10 am
Hello.

It's been going through my mind, that we have 'cities' and 'city' related things under 'projects & creations'. and those threads.
I've also noticed that people post things like 'arbotorium's school' under general discussions, and to be realistic, they are all community groups, gatherings, or events with no real rewards, other than the company of others.

This would be a child board under "General Discussion"

Organization of the board:
(click to show/hide)

Childboard :Community
(click to show/hide)

Now that you've read all of this. give it a thought. The point of this is to distinguish groups, or cities, towns. Or quite simply "Community" related things.
Cities & towns have evolved into their own thing

This new board, will have a place for the unlisted subjects, and it will be used just as much (if not more) than the 'Projects & Creations' board. AND it would have a place for topics that aren't really projects & creations, nor general discussion, such as 'arbotorium's school' (I only recite that one, because it's the easiest to remember)

I hope you've started to think that we could use it, It's not just something to have, but this could be a great improvement on our forums!
Please reply to the thread, and please voice your opinions, suggestions, and objections!

I'll add a visual aid in a few minutes, to demonstrate what this may look like.

Hmm sounds like a cool idea. It would definately optimise the forums a little bit. I know of a few other forums that have this kind of setup as well.

I suggested this a while back. My argument wasn't nearly as planned or thought out.

But i got the response:
"Cities run by players are considered projects. Adding another section would just clutter the forums"

Or something along those lines...

But I support this 1000%. It makes us look really unprofessional when the few sections we do have are overly cluttered with a bunch of cities and such. Its for projects and creations, which in my mind, is not city threads.

Also, I think we could utilize child boards MUCH more efficiently. Currently only support and applications have childs, but they're for more "technical" things. Having childs under a topic is not a bod thing, must forums even have childs in childs.

Next to lastly, I think a "recruitment" child could be added. This would be for anyone who is looking for a job or people looking for help in projects.

Lastly, I would like to see a "Marketplace" child. While people argue we have a chat channel for trade, the minecraft chat client is awful, very inefficient, and your message last 2 seconds sometimes. It would be for people doing long term sales (auctions, mass supply purchase, etc etc). This would also free up the General discussion board.

Overall, I think the entire forums needs a reorganization. While it worked great for a period of time, I think the way the community is shifting means we need a new structure (not completely new, just a fine tuning) for the forums. And maybe "forum-only mods". It is NOT a new rank, its just people who have mod status in the forums only and can devote more time to keeping it clean, organized and on topic. Yes it would be staff, but in many other gaming forums I've been on these "Forum Mods" were very helpful and kept things tidy.

Just my 2 cents...

-Nate

I've added "Trade" in there.
for the 'recruitment' childboard... that would just go under "General use" of the board, I'll add that there, after I'm done the visual.

I helped!  :D

But am I the only one that is tired of hearing "We have a trade chat channel, therefor our trade system is perfect and could not be made better in any way"?

Here's the visual aid to how this board (or childboard of something) May look like. It includes 15 real topics, that I found in 'general discussion' that would be used in this scenario.

In addition, as I was scouring the pages of general discussion, I cannot help but see that almost every page there is riddles with auction, and trade threads.

You can go to the general discussions board, and see click on the threads of each topic I used in the visual aid.

Oh, and I used the layout provided in "Moderator, and City applications"

(click to show/hide)

I personally like only childs in the section, so it would have "Events, Cities & Towns, Trade, And General Discussion" (not in that order) and have nothing else on that screen. Idk I might like it or not

We don't need a child board for the general discussion of the board :P
At least, I don't think so. But if this was ever implemented, it would be the Admins & Optical's call.

Tabooti for president. If it's not Tabooti, it's not enough.

Tabooti 2012.

On topic, sounds good. Again I show my full support for this.

Bump.

In light of the recent activity in the "General Discussion" board, this could be (and should be) manipulated to hold the massive amounts of in-game advertisements. This would really keep differentiation between in-server and off-server topics.

The General Discussion forum has been taken over by auctions so I highly support this idea.

I saw in the pictures what you mean. I really support it.
BUT!
In order to bring the market to the forum(in a major proportion), we need also rules.
I suggest a rule:
1) Place your topic for an auction/sale.
   a. This requires: Expiration date, item, price, scaling on bids.
2) You will not be allowed to modify the data you gave at the beginning, neither to post something different later on.
The reason I am saying that, is because some people here, make unethical competition, by taking your ideas and posting at lower prices.

*I didnt read all the comments, but I dont think its suggested.

No, It was not suggested, but things like rules will be put on the childboard. you know like it saying "Trade rules". We just need to keep this thread alive till optical isn't busy, and actually gets time to see it :P

Oh nice. Much cleaner.  :)

Now we just need those community boards we first spoke of.  ;)

Also, to add: The Event section is for Official Events on the server that are planned ahead of time. All non-official or community events are not really qualified as official, unless the whole server is invited to participate.

All other events that are not major are to remain outside of the Official Events section, by admin rule.

I did not make up the rules. This has been in place even in the Classic server.

I'm aware. I thought this would simply be a place to add unofficial events.
I guess this could go under general discussions as well as a child board* that is.

the bigger brighter future was creating a "Trade" section instead. and auctions would've been included.
