Why you should become a moderator:

I was an operator on Classic two years ago for quite a while managing 200+ daily players, the most of which were nubs leaving a trail of grief in their wake. Before that, I was a Crafter. I have been a part of SMP since the server came out, playing off and on over the years. A few months ago my interest in Opticraft has been renewed and I have been playing actively since.

As an older gentleman, (at least from the perspective of the average age of Minecraft) I will bring experience and patience to the team of Mods. I'm not sure what the official policy on using Mod powers to assist others with building, but I would like to use the position to encourage and assist the server population to focus more on building marvelous creations rather than filling chests with resources.

Suggestions / Revitalize Server Listings
« on: November 10, 2013, 01:25:41 pm »
Our description on server listings is a bit... outdated. The descriptions haven't been changed since we first turned on SMP.

I think, when we upgrade to 1.7.2 and introduce a new world, we should announce that on all the server listings and forums. We need to do something to draw more people in as it's been getting a bit quiet lately.

Accepted - Project/HOF Applications / Project Protection, Lumi's Palace
« on: October 13, 2013, 04:05:45 am »
I've been working on this build for quite a while. The plot and underground area has been in place for over a year. I've come back to it with renewed zeal as I actually have a plan to finish it now.

I would like everything from 806, 0, 505 to 930, 256, 629 protected. This will protect the physical structure as well as the landscaped region around it. I've made a lot of progress on the build itself, but it will not be finished for quite a while as it will span from bedrock to max height.

The palace resides above ground, greeting visitors with high ceilings, an elaborate floor plan, and a spacious main hall. Rising high above the main palace will be a tremendous spire that pierces the heavens. Excavated beneath the palace is a perilous dungeon, full of dangerous monsters, that snakes down to bedrock.

The build needs to be protected because all of it will be open to the public. I will be constructing a new personal in an off-site area.

I love classic, but the graphics suck, and the block choices are extremely limited. I'm not the only one who feels this way, and yet there are practically zero creative-mode servers. I aim to solve this. My goal is to configure a full-version Minecraft server package that plays *exactly* like our classic creative server. If I'm successful, I would love for it to be an Opticraft server.

Project details:

Template flatgrass maps similar to classic maps. Terrain generation will be disabled. Nether disabled. Time of day fixed. Day maps, evening maps, night maps. As maps fill up, new maps will be loaded from the templates. Physics and redstone will be disabled on Guest/Member/Recruit to conserve server resources. Builder worlds will have physics enabled. Crafter worlds will have Redstone. A preconfigured Zombe mod file will be available for players accustomed to WoM controls.

Suggestions / Randomized Spawn Locations
« on: March 24, 2012, 04:19:23 pm »
How about a small script to initially set new player's /home data to a random location on the map? I think this would avoid the ground-zero effect that happens around fixed starting areas, and also eliminate the need to go on a half hour trek to find a clean place to build.

Current rank: Crafter

Reason for application:

My focus has been shifting from building to helping new players. I'm always willing to give building advice, demonstrate more advanced ways of doing things, and this is especially cool when working with talented new players who are able to take that little bit of help and run with it to make something truly epic. I already do my best to keep trolls and griefers locked down, even though I can't ban or undo the damage, at least I can stop it from being worse. As an operator, I would have the tools to properly do the job.

Why you should become an operator:

I tend to play late at night when no other operators are online. I see a lot of talented new members get frustrated and move on to other servers because there aren't any operators around to fix grief or promote them. In an ideal world, there would always be an operator on. In such a world, I would be perfectly happy to remain a crafter and build away on my own worlds. Sadly, that isn't the case. I should become an operator because it's a job that needs doing and I'm capable of doing it.

Have you been temp-op before?: Nope

Extra information: I'm a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Following the standards and holding others to them is our way of life.

Projects / Opticraft: Best Builds of 2011
« on: October 23, 2011, 11:11:51 pm »
This server has been around for about a year now and we have some truly epic builds scattered about in various worlds. Over the next two months I'll be digging through every single world and documenting the best creations. A few weeks before New Year's Eve, these will be sorted by rank and a poll will be created for each group. On New Year's Day the polls will close and the BEST BUILDS OF 2011 WILL BE ANNOUNCED!

This can be done with just screenshots on a forum post, but I would really like to put a copy of these builds into new showcase-type worlds. If we can get BestOfMember, BestOfRecruit, and BestOfBuilder created as 512x512x196 worlds, that should be plenty of space to cram in all the epic building that's gone on this year. After winners are decided, I'll build little trophies next to the winning builds :D

(Guest builds won't be considered because there will be 400 Guest worlds by then. Crafter builds won't be considered because there just aren't enough of them and it's pretty obvious the Statue of Liberty will win)

Been working on this the last couple days in Crafter world. Exterior is 100% will begin the interior tomorrow. If this were on beta, I could use torches and make it look awesome. This isn't beta.

General Discussion / Minecraft.net Classic Server List
« on: September 15, 2011, 01:36:31 am »
Classic server list has been reorganized. We're no longer at the top. The endless supply of free nubs has been cut, we must now compete for new users like everyone else.

Should make Ops' and Admins' lives easier, which is good, because they'll need to be nice to people to keep them around.

Projects / What should I build?
« on: September 12, 2011, 01:07:07 am »
So, I've got this 512x512x196 world sitting empty, collecting dust. I would like to dedicate the whole lot of it to a single glorious project. Ideas on what to build? Oh, and the owner of the best idea gets a $20 world to build in. (Relax, I'm footing the bill.)

People in Crysis2 and BulletStorm.

Seriously, these games are awesome. One more play through and maybe then I'll feel like building blocks again.

Projects / Mario 64 Levels
« on: August 11, 2011, 09:50:38 pm »
Mario 64 is one of my favorite games of all time, and a big reason for this is the awesome level design. I know people have made Peach's castle already, but what about the rest of the game?

I think the Bowser obstacle-course levels would be particuarly fun to remake in Minecraft. They could be done 1:1 scale pretty convincingly as they're mostly made of chunks in the game. And at the top, the big circular platform and Bowser himself :)

Aside from that, there's the floating island/tower map (the one with the owl), wet/dry world (underground town included, and a few others that would be interesting to do.
