To all Builders and Recruits:
The reservations on Builder and Recruit worlds must come to an end. People are reserving space, and leaving it for ages, while others are taking up insanely large portions of the map for themselves. There have been numerous complaints and issues related to reserving plots of land; it must end.
The most recent Builder world was definitely the straw that broke the camel's back. Within a few days, every block on the world was taken up before hardly any building even began!
This being said, if you see someone else has started building something, don't intrude on their space. Its pretty obvious when you are impeding on a creation.
So, enough already, no more reservations.
-
I support this.
-
I hate reservations, but what about int the members worlds? some builders/recruits reserve space there.
-
Finally! I totally agree with this post :)
-

Builders and Recruits shouldnt even be BUILDING there... it's the new member's place to build, if builders take up all the room, where's the member's gonna build?

I see your point, maybe they should be told not to build there too.
-
Agreed, people need to stop reserving space.
It finishes the map without even any building in it.
-
Hm, well sometimes theres a need for reservations. There will end up being disputes about whos building where. You should have reservation rules, 'build a substantial amount in your reserved space everyday, and that amount has to be part of the build', or something like that. If you remove reservations then there will be people fighting because someone else accidentally built on an area the first builder might have needed. Just saying... :-\
-
can you reserve space if you instantly start building?
like: 'i know i need this much space, here's a start.'?
-

I would say just make an outline of what you're going to build.

This
When i build something i always outline it first, plus people need to use common sense on how much space to give a project.
-
Seriously. Not trying to be rude, but that star destroyer is way too big. It almost takes up a fourth of the map. It IS good, but please refrain from building such big projects. Remember, big builds do not make them better builds than smaller ones.

I tend to agree with you there.

I completely agree

The one that muhnator built? I don't seem to care if they turn out amazing like muhnator's but if they are too big and don't amaze you then I think you shouldn't even bother to build them.
-
I never said it doesnt amaze me its actually really good, and when did I say i build them? PLEASE actually read the posts before you reply to a thread.

Read my post before you reply. I never said that you build them. I was speaking in general, just like you were. I wasn't pointing fingers at anybody. I said that I think it is fine if it turns out amazingly like muhnator's. I never said anything about your opinion on his project. I knew you were speaking in general.
-
But what if other people want to build something, but something like that takes up lots of room? Let's not have a flame war...

I totally agree with spartan the builder and recruit worlds need to be like they were before, were people built anywhere and didnt have to be restricted by large amount of reserved space, often people dont use all there space then that becomes wasted. I know builders want to prove themselves but you can still do it without having to reserve a massive space
-
Here's an idea, start building and if you find your build would cut into the wall or another build, ask an op to move it somewhere where you can continue building.
-
agreed but i reserved space only to fill it with lava!
-
In my experience, I first determine the approximate size of my building before doing any framework etc, and only place corner stones to show the possible area that I may need to other people around me. It keeps the world looking as it should, and is not a permanent fixture like the reservation walls that everyone else uses, sprites are a little different, you should always plan ahead and have a set size so edges are appropriate
-
Finally thank you! Ily no homo :p
-
I hope my Death Star isnt part of this problem :S
-
Sorry, but can anyone help me remove my wall in guest ( if it disrupts anyone)? Only in guest!
-
OK, we have had some major reserving on the recruit worlds, taking up over 1/4 of the world etc. I need all of you recruits to use size common sense when building a build, if it keeps up action will need to be taken. Please take this chance all ops when you promote a recruit talk to them about no reserving, it is a huge problem that must be fixed, thanks. Other recruits please tell other recruits not to reserve... KINDLY. The solution for reserving is to make the outline of your build.
UPDATE: Me and omar have potentially fixed lots of the reserved space. Please leave it that way.
No reserving whatsoever (barrier)
-
We dont can reserve space at the world, but i think we can reserve space in air?
(up bedrock level)???
if we reserve space in the air, we're dont destroyin the other recruits space, just using another space.
except for building too much tall
if i'm correctly, reply this topic plz
thanks, Reator
-
No reserving, instead of reserving, make the outline of your build.
-
Yes reserving is pretty darn annoying. I was building a portal and I had to delete it because I was building on "private property". It's the recruit world, not "Lolzer's custom private world only for him to build on but anyone can view it ok plz"

um Marshy i got one in OP already, but heres cool to i guess ;p;

making an outline IS reserving from what i know
-

No, reserving is making a huge wall of stone around where your project will be.
Outlining is making the outline of the project ITSELF.

No, reserving is making a 1x1 wall around your build.
Any reservations you see that have not got a project filling it all up, call an op and we can delete and you can build there.
-
Soul knight, you are aware that recruits cannot read it in op which is the whole point...
-
Is building a one by one wall and a 8 blocks thick patterns and outline for the project suitable for reserving?

Marshy can you un ban people cause i got banned because my brother griefed 3 blocks of the monkey and i dont greif and just want to build? can you un-ban me?
-
I already did, because I know I can trust you.
-
No more is a bit strict in my opinion, limiting would be fine but i know i like to do projects that sometimes take a while to finish, is a smaller space reservation okay?
-

Actually that's a good idea, physical outline reservations, but what about people who ignore odd shapes drawn into the ground and dilly dally on in with out realizing?

DSWSJR, Please do not necropost. That is posting about 3 weeks - a month after the last post.

"outlining" a project is reserving in our eyes, we will remove outlined structures if no progress is made within a very short ammount of time.
-
Whoops. Building on my outline tmrw, pls dun remove it!
-
I already did, because I know I can trust you.
i helped building a pyramid, its not very much a pyramid, deekay said i should take a screenshot before it getts griefed fully:

2andahalfsniper started building it, Boxyrules and me helped, cant remember the other guys who helped, please set us 3 one rank higher, deekay said we deserve a rank for it
ps, forums are soo confusing for me, i dont know the system of a forum, just someone plz set my rank to recruit

Impossible,it is clearly seen in /whois that he has been absent in the server for 1 week

Can't even outline, just start building and call an admin/op if someone starts in your way later.
-
in a builder world ages ago i made a barier around where i was going to build, i filled it with lava ( took ages ) and the next day all bariers where gone but mine ( as it had lava in it ) so the message, only wall off if you are going to use ALL the space
-
New recruits need to be informed of this policy. Many are making massive outlines thinking it's completely kosher.
We should also impress upon them that it's better to have a smaller, detailed build, than a massive, zero detail monolith.
-
Uh may I ask, how am I going to build a massive build without having others build into it while it is being built?

case in point: /j recruit

I am actually tempted to say that reserving space is a good idea. My point is that yesterday, I started to build in recruit (I don't feel my builds are good enough for operator/builder). Today I came back, and my build was totally surrounded by other builds, making new work on it impossible. I don't mean near, I mean on 1 side, the other build was touching, on the other sides, I had 1 to 2 blocks space.
As well as raising the bar for new recruits (As in making promotions much harder), I feel we should allow some sort of reservation, as long as there is progress to the build and a clear outline of the build, not a huge rectangle.
I feel some recruits (Not all, some just lack imagination) may be building smaller as they know that a half finished project counts for less than a finished one, and they will not have space to finish if they leave their builds.
-
What claw said.
I'm afraid I can't make a build that I was intending to make, due to space constraints.
-
the only solution i could see is to wait for a new recruit world to be generated, then go back to the previous world, and ask an op to remove any outline of a build that was not finished or just an outline and use the space to build.
of course, this takes a long time, and by then most of the space are already used up anyway.
if this is a correct solution, then we could ask the admins to generate recruit worlds more quickly, ensuring that more space will be available, given the number of active recruits right now, it seems to be a possible solution
that, and another one is to make 2 new recruit worlds at the same time, but that would be not acceptable to the admins i think, and recruits would just be outlining/reserving space on both worlds that they would not build on anyway, although i think its a good idea, since serious recruit builders will have more space for their projects, thus raising the quality of recruit builds as a whole.
-
the reason we got rid of reserveing space is because people were coming onto a new world reserving huge spaces, the disspearing for like weeks, then coming back making little progress and dissapearing again. this leaves ugly unfinished structures which we do not want on the server.
i will always remove any reserved space and the person who reserved it will be banned for 3 days if left for like a week or so.

I totally agree with you. This is why I suggested only reserving the outline of the build, and there has to be visable progress (A decent amount) every say 24 hours unless otherwise explained.
I do think a ban on the first offence is a bit harsh (Often people just don't know) but ok/
-
to make it clear, if there's still no or little progress in any reserved space for 1 week, the person who reserved will be banned, and the outline/ not finished structure will be removed? correct?
i guess that solves it. :D
-
When I was member/recruit/builder I would always section out the area I intended to build in with a 1x high rectangle. It's very helpful, especially when finding axis of symmetry and measuring relative distances. But I would never just do an outline and leave it.
So, if you've got time to build a 100x100 outline then you've got time to start your building too. If not, then you should probably wait until you do have time to start building.
-
So as long as I don't leave it for a week without improving, I can outline my project?
-

So long as your build is actually started before you log off.
-
Okay, thanks.

ok i got it, but it does get annoying when peope build to close to your builds.

i went around a few days ago and made sidewalks around about every road me and imp made to show where people they should stop building and i made more side streets to make smaller areas on the main roads coming off of spawn to show them to use less space
and to not take up half the length of the world writing your name out in lava making that entire area useless (no time for grammar ranting)

I think roads are stupid. and writing your name.

Bump
This is becoming a problem in the recruit world.
-
Why are you building in the recruit world? O_o
-

I'm not... But if you just look at the recruit world you will see it is becoming a problem so I bumped it for all recruits to see.

Ah. I see..

Oopsie... had moved it of SMP General Discussion on accident... ;D Relocated
Moved to here to keep the number if stickies in the Server News forum low. Also, merged a similar stickied topic "Reserving space - recruits (other ranks too)"
