Why and how did I get banned?

I was just harvesting my fields and when I got to the melons and cut down some of them I got banned. Why? It said something about griefing but I didn't grief anything! I was in my own house that I built my self, and far away from spawn. Deep underground. Almost at bedrock. This is a great server and I love it. I have spent a lot of time playing on that server. Is there something you can do to get me unbanned? When I tries to log on the game it says: Disconnected by Server       The Ban Hammer has spoken! <--- Please unban me!

So I have to wait 7 days to log back on... For harvesting my own melon... I just hope that I don't get griefed in the meantime. I'm going away for some days, five or six, so it isn't a real big problem. My chests are protected anyway. But it is stupid that I got banned for harvesting a melon. It could be that my friend planted it, but he don't usually go to the melon farm. Oh well... See you in 7 days then...
