You obtain one either by buying one or signing up on the forums (since you've signed up you have one now! nice!)
you should have received a "coal ore"
this is your protection stone. place it anywhere in your house you want to protect, it will set up a visualization of how far the protection stretched, then the visualization will be removed, and you're done.
