The reason they are not cheap, is to prevent access to the "lowbies". Imagine a griefer comes into the server. This griefer is 1 in a million, smarter than the rest, and realises what he could do with a ps. It is on sale, so he mines some iron, and buys diamond protection. He just has to place it, to screw over many people inside those 97336 blocks. See what I mean?- this is what clawstrider said he is correct ... just work on the server and gain the money to buy a PS

You aren't the only player nor the only one that gets griefed and needs help, did you even use /helpop?
Expecting an instant response is expecting too much. Go mining for an hour and you should have enough for a protection stone.
You need to be patient.

The prices of the protection stones have lowered their prices (from $2000 for a coal and $90000 for a diamond (i think) anyway, you are lucky. You do get a free protection stone for signing up to Opticraft :D
