People can do auto-melon farms, but only a certain number of pistons will function on a single circuit. This is to protect the server from overloading chunk updates, because this could usually crash the server if it wasn't regulated.

Really? How many are allowed?

I'm not sure exactly-- I've never had an auto-melon farm. I do know that this has happened to someone's auto-melon farm before.
