I really need all the suport I can get even though it does little or nothing.

I believe Admins like to know the age because they want to see if the player is mature enough. However, I can only hope, they don't decide it that way, because there are people that are more mature than their actual age.
Edit- Maybe it just gives them an idea of how mature they are?

Exactly, Because maturity is mainly based on the person's age (Experience in life)
Age does matter.

True, generally. But considering you said mainly, it also means maturity doesn't always have to be based purely on the age. Age can sometimes be deemed an important factor in maturity, but it doesn't DEFINE maturity. The maturity of a person can be found out by the way they present themselves or the way they choose to make decisions (or to simply summarize it, through their daily behavior).
Being an Operator, you must display patience (be able to handle many players or even angry ones; not easily annoyed), sophistication (when needed to make a decision, being serious and straightforward), and even intuition (to be able to make quick decisions).
That's basically what I think maturity is and I don't believe age should change the opinion you have of someone. You decide their maturity based on how well they behave, not by their date of birth.
